Put up a rifle for sale here on the fire and had an offer for a straight up trade. I've bought and sold on here and know how that works, but not sure how to handle a trade. If it matters, i will be shipping from individual to FFL and assume he would do the same. Thanks ahead of time.

Pretty much just like that, you ship your rifle to his FFL and he ships his rifle to your FFL.

My answer is dependent upon who the participants are. As the seller, in a trade, you are entitled to receive your payment just as you would be in a cash deal, prior to shipping.
If the buyer is a known, reputable, commodity, simultaneous shipping is O.K.
I have actually been a new seller on a couple of forums and have shipped my rifle prior to receiving payment from buyers my research showed to be reputable members.

Otherwise, do some due diligence and take your chances.

If some one offers me a trade and we make a deal I always do it like a regular transaction. I feel like they are paying for my item with there item so I wait for there item as I would waiting on payment. When it arrives I ship mine out. Has always worked for me, never had a problem.

There's no chance of a face to face and i kinda assumed it would work similar to a sale in that i would wait until i receive the rifle from the other guy until i ship mine. The other member is fairly new here and even though everyone on here was new once, just trying to cma.

Exactly right, it is however you two agree on how it should happen. That based upon reputation, etc...
In the past, I personally have shipped at the same time. But, that was always with established members.

You may be able to elist the FFLs to hold the rifles until both parties recieve them and they are confirmed what they say they are. Just a thought.

Better yet, trade with someone in your home state and forego the need for a ffl..........
