Saw a darn nice buck last night hanging with a couple of does. He wasn't all messed up in the head yet but was slipping a bit. It was about 600yds from my favorite stands. Hey Scott if you need me to come up and take care of that crazy deer I will. You sure can. I tore up one of my machines late last week and just got it back on the job today. Nothing a bottle of O2 in the torch, 3/4" plate steel and 20# of lo-hi rod couldn't fix. Needless to say I'm a bit behind schedule and the digging days are numbered. I'm glad to see that fall is hanging on but all this wet weather makes for awful muddy conditions. So when you come up to shoot these deer, bring a lot of weapons. I see more girl deer than I can count, LOTS of spikes & forky deer, some 8pts and a nice looking 10pt by my main stand. I'm sure you'll be all filled out on venison after the first morning but you could just as well spend the week & I'll find something to keep you busy. (I have the mekiniking tools )
Do not feed the bear!

I was taught to never pass up a legal deer, you might not see another one all season. last year I never saw any deer in rifle season. We have the opposite problem!. We have too many deer. Especially does. Went for a drive around our block and counted 64 deer, of which two were bucks. But we can only shoot one! So late in the season I will most likely shoot a doe. Before then, I will enjoy the hunt and hope fer da turdy pointer! My daughter has the green light on anything. Joey, we don't have a 14 pointer, but the neighbor has been seeing a 12. He needs to move north a half a mile though! I hope to post a grip and grin picture early next week of him. I hope YOU get the 14 pointer. Remember, they move a lot this time of year so just because you haven't seen one doesn't mean he won't come from miles away to pay you a visit!
What you do today is important, you are trading a day in the rest of your life for it.

I don't think I've seen any horns since 2007.
None of us have doe tags, except for young "Shorty" who is still a youth hunter. Shorty is taller than me now I believe. Future WNBA star, or maybe she will be a dentist for giraffes, or a light bulb changer and top shelf assistant for SAMS club... She not short any more.
lol
Northern Dave we must have our deer stands right next to each other. I'm in the same boat.Have not seen horns either. Maybe this will be the year.

The damned squirrels used to get into our transformers and blow 'em up. Fuggin tree rats! They all the wiring in our neighborhood underground and that cured that problem.

I guess I'll be a ground pounder this weekend. I got up on the roof and blew out the gutters last Sunday. Shoulders and legs were really bugging me by the time I got down. Went to church last night and was trying to help the A.V. nerds hand a projector in the sanctuary. Just looking up the ladder got me lighheaded and dizzy to the point I was about to fall over. 'Had to sit down for a few minutes just to get my wits about me.
'Was going to hunt out of the portable stand this weekend, but I think I'll be parking my butt on a bucket. Better safe than sorry. Man, this heart stuff really sucks.

Just put your portable up a little bit. Even 3-4 feet is better and probaby more comfortable than a bucket.
