I am replacing some walkways and I am interested in Piping the Downspouts out into the yard about 20' away from the house. I am using 10' sections of 4" sewer pipe that is smooth on the inside. I bought some Pop-up Water Emitters to place at the end of each pipe. Is anyone else using this system???

couple of years ago, tired of a flooded back yard, I attached 4 inch sewer pipe to the roof gutter drains, and ran those down to the street. I dug shallow trenches, buried the pipe. Slope of my property gave enough angle to allow good drainage.
Now, no matter the rain fall, the back yard stay above water.

Not seen anything like that over here..usually down spouts drain into a surface water drain which takes the water away into municiple "storm drains"

If thats not conventient, down spouts can be drained into a "soak away" which is essentially a big rock/gravel filled hole buried under the garden somewhere..

If your going to be digging ditches for your pipe ect, think if the garden needs any "land drains" to keep the garden dry as now is the time to do those too..

When I moved into this house, they had installed an asphalt driveway on one side of the house and built up the yard on the other side. This caused the rain water to run under the house (its on piers).

I installed 'french drains', and piped them out to the road. That solved all my drainage problems.

If you live in a northern climate the pop ups won't work very well in the winter.

I rented a trencher, trenched 4 feet deep and laid 50 feet of sock tile for each downspout, this allows it to drain in the winter as well because it's to deep to freeze.

Keep in mind this wouldn't work very well in clay soil.

I've used the 4" sewer pipe for that purpose. They REALLY work but they look kind of trailer park. They are great for a quick fix but I got tired of stepping over them and moving them out of the way.
