If he'd still been active service, he'd get the license for free. He's only been out for 3 friggin' weeks.

It's been a hell of a memory machine, which was my original intent if you look back to the beginning of this monster thread.

We have succeeded in creating and sustaining a gathering place for friends and family. Selfless friendships, loyalties, selfless acts. I'm so proud of everybody and so very happy with our accomplishments.

I'm also very grateful for all of the friendships we have made here and for 9 years of positive support and help, humor, suggestions etc.

Thank you all.

Remember those hunters and camp members that have gone on ahead of us to those campfires and hunting grounds in the heavens above. Remember them, speak well of them. Tell their stories, tell stories of them.

Go on out there, teach the young members, teach them the simplest things... Things that are so second nature that they may seem unimportant. How to make a pot of coffee with an old perc pot. How to light the wood stove, how to light a camp fire, sharpen a knife, start a chainsaw, run a chainsaw, track a deer, read sign, clean a rifle, cook some food....

Teach them something, and don't be afraid to go into detail explaining why you do it this way and not that way.

Most importantly, be safe and best of luck to you all.

Dave

AMEN !

I remember when pistol qualification from the military was a sufficient portion of acquiring concealed carry permit in MN.

2 weeks of Muzzleloading starts here tomorrow. It's been in the high 70's and 74 today, but the front is moving through. Will be in the 40's tomorrow morning.

Love hunting the day after a front.

Yeah, we are lucking out a little here. It was 70 on Wednesday, and will be 20's tonight with a high of 40 on Saturday.

They should be moving.

Taking my 24 year old daughter out to try and score a buck today. Won't hunt with her new husband because he is a whiner she says. LOL Shes only killed 2 bucks so far because of work and school so this is quality time together. Good Luck everybody. ED K

I do. As inexperienced hunters, I feel the odds of them wounding a deer are higher than maybe an experienced hunter. The last thing I want is a wounded deer as that would be a very bad experience for them. So I bring mine to clean up any messes that are inadvertently created. Oh, I should also say, my daughter gets one shell. I want to teach her that she needs to make that first one count.

The other reason is that then "we" are going hunting rather than you taking him hunting. Taking him hunting has a little component of charity to it that they pick up on quickly.

But I have often wondered why I am hauling that thing out there!

Good question.

alright, a truck load of rifles that we won't shoot... tons of food, clothes... Yep, I'm about ready to head for the woods and light the wood stove in the cabin.

Good luck all!

I will try to sneak a report in from the deer stand now and then if I can.

Camp Isabella checking in. Got camp up yesterday and stands today. Have a couple of good bucks on the trail cams we pulled when putting up the stands.

Rain off and on all day yesterday and snowed/sleeted today. Had been about 33 to 36 all day.

Good Luck to all.

Gopher - just read your post. PM me if you can't get your Marine a HS cert. I'm pretty sure I can get it done. Our states recognize each other's hunter safety programs. A few questions is all. I figure if Goalie and that other Jarhead who started this thread made through this many hunting seasons without any issues, then that little vacation they took after high school at Parris or San Diego musta done some good.

Good luck to the 'sotans! T minus 1 week and counting for us.
