I have a Montana 280AI located that the owner says has a "shot out barrel". I can pick it up cheap, but I would only be interested in having it re-barreled to 6.5x55. Does anyone see any reason why this wouldn't work? Case length is longer on the 280AI so that should make room in the blind magazine box to seat the bullets out a little farther on the Sweed and still let it feed reliable?? Thoughts? Thanks in advance for any info

Can be made to work: http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/10656120/6.5x55_brass?#Post10656120Before I would deal with that I would get an 84m and rechamber to 6.5Creedmoor. Problems non existant, same performance..... Say! That's a good idea! I might build a 6.5CM for myself! David

18" is a little shorter than I had in mind, but I appreciate the heads up. David

6.5 Creedmoor fits a standard length SA mag box better.
On a different rifle, like an MRC, the 260 would be good.

I think you might see bargain basement prices on those adirondack rifles before it's all over. Such a small group of guys will want one. A 7-08 slinging 120s would not suck though.

On a different rifle, like an MRC, the 260 would be good. Exactly. The Kimber already has a short mag box, and unless you cut the freebore to match the magazine (which will reduce case capacity and increase pressure), 260 would be a bad idea. It would almost be better to build a 260 kimber on the long action receiver...but in that case, why not go to 6.5x55, 6.5x284, or 6.5-06? It is my understanding the 6.5 Creedmoor was created to address the magazine issues the 260 has with high BC bullets. I do know I can't get any where near mag length with my Creedmoors. This is the same reason my 84M is off becoming a 243 AI. I have too many 6.5 Creedmoors already and 260 won't cut it with that action.

I'd make sure a Creedmore reamer would clean up the old chamber before I invested any money. I don't think it will, since the 243 is longer and the 257 is a lot longer.

Just remember that if you go 6.5x55 it will be chambered with a SAMMI throat. LOOOOONG...... you won't be able to seat your bullets into the lands.
Reason why I'm done with Sweede.
The 6.5 CM would be my choice, you could load longer BC bullets.
