Anyone driving a 2012 - 2014 Acadia?

Specifically concerned about reliability, probs, ability to handle nasty weather with AWD system.

Thanks,

Bob

We have an 11 Chevy Traverse and love it! Very reliable to this point. Basically an Acadia with a bow tie

I have a 2013 Acadia AWD. Knock on wood, no problems and have 43k on it. Handy vehicle, easy to get into and drive isn't too bad, but mileage could be a bit better. 20-23 on the x-way with a load in it.

We have had a couple in the shop with low km's and engines on their way out. Co-worker was a long time GM mechanic and said the problem comes from using the oil life monitor and not running top quality oil. People are running whatever the local quick-lube has in the bulk tank and not changing it soon enough. Apparently when a high quality oil is used and changed regularly, the problems go away.

I wouldn't buy an Acadia. I wouldn't even look at one unless ALL the recalls were done. Oil life monitor can be way off.

XX what is a KM ??????

This.

And use a decent brand oil filter (just as important).

Do these 2 things & your odds go way up on any vehicle of being trouble free.

KM kilometer = 1000 meters or about 6.5 tents of a mile

We had a 2010 model that we drove for 222k miles before trading it in. It was a very useful machine.

American Petroleum Institute (API) spec SN reduced the amounts of extreme pressure additives and other components in the additive package at the request (demand?) of the EPA due to evidence of "poisoning" of the catalytic converter.

Cynics point out that vehicles that are burning oil are severe polluters anyway.

GM requires synthetic/semi-synthetic oils for vehicles built after 2011 due to testing that indicates that SN specs do not provide adequate protection to modern engines when made with pure petroleum base oils.

Unfortunately, oil blenders ALWAYS blend to the latest API specs. That means that pre-2011 vehicles are being fed API SN oils and puking.

SN oils are notable because they are much paler than pre-SN oils. Some of them are almost clear. Likely, the EP additives are brown.

You can thank the Obama administration for your engine being lunched.

GM just reduced the "normal" oil consumption from 2500 miles to 2000 miles.
Acadias are nice vehicles, but some are a heart ache.

My sister has one and it seems nice but I wouldn't own anything made by GM since the bail-out- why trust them with even more money. Sorry, I guess I am just to critical of idiots. I have bought two Ford Edges in the past two years. We love them! My sister says it's way better than her Acadia.

GMC Acadia = farm equipment compared to VW Touareg
