Live update: I freaking love smashed PBJ sandwiches! Saw 8 does and two small bucks this morning. I watched one of them breed a doe. Don't see that too often. Dad and Brother tag teamed a nice buck but we are still in the recovery process. Hit real hard though. Blood and bone chunks all over.

Live update II: I am crazy. I just passed up a nice 9 pointer. Not quite to the ears. 6" tines. Broadside. 100 yards.

Passed a cute little 8pt and forky this morning. Saw 4 more girl deers. The 8 had such a small body. No neck. I have a hunch that it was a very young deer with good genetics so I'll let him go sew his oats. He got within 40yds so I got a good look.
There is a nicer 8pt by my stand every day (trailcams) that I might harvest. Rack is about to the end of the ears when they are straight out. I'll see how I feel when he presents himself for judgment. Problem is, I let these walk then my neighbors shoot them all to heck after chasing them for however long. I like nice clean shots and no wasted meat. I can't eat the hardware on the head anyway I guess.
Nice to see yous guys are having some luck. Be safe and good luck.

Camp Isabella report..
Wife took a doe at 2PM. First time she has ever got one on opening day.. She gutted and I dragged. Short 200 yards to where we could get the truck.
I do not have enough reception here in the trees to post pictures so they will have to wait.

Pequaywan report... No deer sighted. At all...any where. My little buddy sat all day! I'm very proud of him. Not one complaint, no whining, just concentration. And a few fart jokes.

Well I whacked one for the freezer/smoker/sausage machine. It came out about 300yds from me on one of my shooting lanes and I had about 1/2 second to decide if I was going to pull the trigger on a trotting deer.
Nice little 150# dressed buck that will top the freezer off nicely. 8pts. Not the one I was looking for.
I was happy to get some freezer meat so I can get back to work. I'll spend a the next day or two trying to help my neighbors fill their tags between me pulling levers.
Pics to come when I get the patients to screw with photobucket.

Oh... Best will be fresh fried deer heart & eggs for breakfast. That would be my deathbed meal if it ever comes. That's my favorite meal ever. Tenderloin will be cooked very soon also.

Just got back. Tag soup again. On stand all day yesterday, and till 10 today. Heard sporadic shooting, very little of it nearby. Somebody shot once back behind me this morning, so I'm guessing they got one. Never saw a deer. One of our guys saw fawn yesterdy, and my BIL saw to tails. Back at it next weekend.

Squaw lake report: five of ten as of early afternoon. Four bucks and one big do by a youth hunter and his first deer! I was posted between two hunters with doe tags- they saw nothing while I had 8 does and one yearling buck with a 2" antler at best. He worked a scrape and came back later to check it again. He didn't get any bigger! 3 Buick tags and two doe tags to fill. Come on snow!

We did ok. Two for two, a spike and doe. Tenderloins for dinner Saturday and skinned and quartered back home by 2:45 Sunday. Need to get another big doe muzzle-loading the metro zone though. Skinning/quartering time at home: Saturday night dinner fixins: Packed up for the earliest departure ever for us:

Really happy for my nephew. He knocked down this nice 10-pointer this morning. Last year his younger brother also got a 10-pointer (his first year out). Great to see these young boys have success. Hung this one on a digital scale ... 209lb dressed out.
