Are there any other tools to remove a spent 209 primer other than the plastic TC or the CVA metal tool? Any info would be appreciated.

I'm all about using the correct tool for the job, and have used the CVA tool to teach my son with a 209 fired Black Diamond. That said, I've used about every conceivable thing with a thin edge to pull them out of my Encore Bergara 209x45 that does not have an extractor like the TC barrels do. I usually just grab them with my fingers and be done with it.
What kind of access do you have to the spent primer?

There are some disadvantages to bolt-action inlines, but also advantages. My Knight's bolt holds the primer by the rim and cams it into and extracts it from the breech plug. That's the good part. The bad part is that loading the primer into the bolt face is a pain.

We all must carry several items in our Possibles Bag heading into the woods to hunt. I include an unorthodox 209 extractor, to remove my stuck super-hot Federal 209A primers from my Omega and Vision breechplug. Sure I could change to a different brand. But I have over 500 Federal 209As in my gun safe. So needless-to-say, I'm definitely going to use them-up. (link) Small, bent, needle-nose pliers

Has anyone tried a magnet? I would think that would work. We use magnets to pick up empty hulls at my sporting clays range and on the brass headed hulls it's the primers that stick to the magnet. Probably wouldn't work on a chrome moly gun though.

Like Triple Se7en, I use the Federal 209A to light off a full charge of BH209 (84 grains by weight)with my Two NEF Sidekicks with aftermarket Metrics Unlimited breechplugs.
The one Sidekick is easy peasy to remove the spent primer with your fingers most every time it's fired. The other I suspect was drilled a little to shallow and not quite the needed diameter, but that rifle is just plain ol accurate with a 200 grain Dead Center bullet. I have bent the fingers on the CVA tool in getting the primers out but always manage. Just looking for a better mousetrap.
I might have to take Triple Se7en's advise and carry a Harbor Freight special!!
If nothing else I could use the pliers to bend the fingers back on the CVA tool.

Try cocking and dry fire the spent primer again. I do that on my savage smokeless rifle when they won't pop out.

I use a set of archery nock set pliers to remove 209's from my Encore 50. The pliers are a perfect fit.
