I was kinda hoping to turn the 6.5creedmoor into my new "all around" hunting gun. I would limit my shots at whatever the round is capable of. It would be really nice if I could come up with a load that would work on mule deer and Elk out to 500 yards, but if I have to cut the distance to 400, than so be it. Anyhow, it looks like a lot of people like the 140 Amax, but it seems most people say NOT to use it on large game. So what would be the best round for everything from antelope to mule deer and the occasional elk? The gun would be a Ruger Hawkeye predator with a 24 inch tube and 1:8 twist.
I was also thinking about the 140 vld, but have read that they can be hard to load accurately.
Thanks for any and all help.

The 140 VDL is not hard to load accurately in my experience. My go to 139 Scenars.

The accubond 140 has a nice ballistic coefficient. I would try a box of those and see how they group.

These are just a few bullets To see what shoes best in your rifle.

Barnes 127gr LRX, Hornady 142gr ELD-X, Nosler 142gr ABLR, Berger 140gr VLD

All bullets have great BC, good luck choosing.

Good choice and has worked well out of my 260s.

I've also used a 125 NPT and both 130 and 140 NABs with success.

A few years ago someone did a great test on many different bullets here. I recall the Hornady 140 hpbt was very impressive. You can probably still find the thread if you dig a bit.

I think you could kill a lot of game with a 130 VLD through the lungs at 2,900...

140gr Nosler Partition. Wicked killer in both the 7mm-08 and 260rem. They shoot as good as anything in my 6.5 CM.

The first elk killed with the 6.5 Creedmoor fell to the 129gr SST at 600yds.

The 123 AMAX has much potential and the 130gr VLD is a sure performer.

In 23 inches the 130gr VLD would be very tough to beat.

0.550 G1 @ 2875 fps. Not to shabby when combined with great terminal performance.

Would the 6.5 bullets hold up at close range high speed impact of a shoulder?

I'd say the 130 Accubond or the 129 Hornady. Either would serve a man up till he was ded, or bored.

Was gonna throw in my old favorites the Norma Vulkan but you'd starve to def waiting on back orders.

Hell it's a 6.5, you could load it with vagasil and it would still work.
