So I have a model 94 from 1965 that Want to redo. I use it for bear and it does not cycle properly and needs to be refinished. Who are some of the better smiths that can make this gun smooth and cycle properly?

A 1965 vintage 94 is a tough nut for a complete refinish. Beginning in 1964 when they cheapened the venerable 94 terribly. They didn't blue the receivers, they are plated with sort of a black chrome (for want of a better description). The finish tended to flake off in chunks and the casting that is the action will not take blue. I have heard of some guys having the actions finished in one of the modern coatings that are available. The rest of the rifle can be polished and blued no problem but the actions are a bugger.

You can spend a bunch of money on a complete refinish of a gun that seems to accept wear and use gracefully. Might consider just trying to find a cure for the cycling problem first. Try this guy for professional help...
