Lever code doesn't mean anything about date at that serial number range. That didn't start until 1949. Your gun should be a 1943 rifle.

Welcome to the campfire!

Did they manufacture the 99s during WW2? Just asking, I thought that serial number would have been later.

Slender fore arm ending in a shnabel= EG. Heavier rounded fore arm= R/RS No G's made that late.

Could a couple of T's sneeked through that late?

Few leftover models from 1941 and earlier pop up. A 99EG has a forearm attached with a screw, a 99G has a forearm attached with a latch.

99hunter, yes, they did make some 99's during the war. Extra cash for those who got their war weapon quotas done early, but only after the Browning and Thompsons and others were done.

As we all know Murray's is just a guide, but Murray shows end of 1941 as 416,00 and end of 1946 as 438,000, so your rifle could date from during the war or late 1945 or 1946.

As far as I know all the late 1930's, early 1940's Model 99s have the round SVG logo on the toe of the buttplate. I have two Utica rifles, 413,XXX and 432,XXX (which letters to November 1945), which have no logo on the buttplate.

So, the presence or absence of a logo on the buttplate MAY help you date the rifle.

We have ship dates for rifles lower than and higher than his serial that both shipped in 1943. So if he wants a better date, he needs to send a letter to Mr. Callahan and find when his shipped.
