Today Santa came in the brown sleigh with my Nikon Monarch 3 5-20X44. It weighs 18.1 ounce and has a 1" tube; which I am delighted with. I was going to go with the VX-6 3-18X but opted for more magnification and one ounce less weight and didn't want a 30mm tube. I decided to compare it with the the VX-6 4-24X52 for low light performance.

The sun was behind the hill to the west when I got set up. I focused the scope by setting the side focus on infinity and the magnification on 20X. Once the reticle was as clear as it was going to be for me I switched the magnification to 5X. Then I laid it on a sandbag and pointed it at the deer antlers 131 yards away in the woods. I checked to see if I could distinguish the antlers. I could. The I laid out the Leupold set on 4X. I could not make out the antlers so very slowly turned up the power. When I could see the antlers I checked the setting: About 4 7/8X. I turned it to 5X so it was the same as the Nikon.

With the Nikon I could no longer discern the antlers well enough at 4:25PM to shoot at a deer which carried them. The Leupold lasted one more minute. I am delighted since there was about a grand difference in price. Another factor over the 4-24X52 is it weighs 22.5 ounces and 34mm tube.

rifleman700,

Welcome to the 'fire. Occasionally there is some good info here. A lot of the time there is at least conversation. I hope you enjoy your time.
