Good going Weezy. I thought our deer were scarce but you guys are really in short supply. I'm not going to take any time off this year.
I am going to try to retire come May first and am saving up all the vacation time I can. My first retirement check wont come until the first of the following month. The county will give me a check the day I retire for unused vacation and a fraction of unused sick pay. I should end up with around 450 hours of vacation and 250 hours of sick pay.
I just put a 471 lb half a beef in the freezer and a couple of kids I let bow hunt brought me about 70 lb of deer. The weekend after deer season the neighbor is planning to butcher 8 hogs and I am penciled in for one so I really don't have the freezer room to put a whole lot more in anyway, but I do plan on giving them heck next year. Good luck with the rest of your season guys.
Bill

The buck in my avatar is from 2006 and is almost this buck's twin, except the brow tine is on the opposite side.

Back to work for me this morning.

Congrats to all the successful hunters.

Sorry to hear about your FIL, Justin.

It has been slooow hunting for me. I usually see several deer a day, a couple are usually small bucks, but this year the sightings are way down. I think it might be that the weather is just too warm and they're just not moving much.

I did catch a glimpse of a buck yesterday morning as he tailed a doe. The doe froze up and spotted me, I think, and instead of crossing in front of me, she turned and took him with her.

The weather is supposed to cool way down toward the end of the week and I'm looking forward to getting back into the woods with some colder weather and maybe some snow.

Well, it was warm enough that I could take my other over-shirts off long enough for pics and not get too cold. It was low 40's when they were taken. It did hit 60 that afternoon though.

Here too. For the rain anyway: if this was snow, we'd be digging out for a month.

Ben, it was the same up here too. If you look back at my deer pictures, where he fell their was about 6 inches of snow coverage. By Sunday night, he would have been lying in 6 inches of wet, sloppy, sticky clay !

crazy

No, I took my son and daughter before. This time the step-son...or soon to be, is going. Next year I'll take both boys. Currently, the way the regs are set up, he has to sit with a "mentor" and there can only be one gun between the two of you.

Jack missed school to go in MN, while Noah sat out. So now, Noah misses a few days and jack has to sit out. It's really the only fair way I can think of to do it.

Noah had his stuff ready by Sunday night. grin

Yeah, same regs up here too !

Sorry, thought both boys were with you on your last trip.

I'm sure if you can get one for Noah this time out, it will "stand you in good sted" with future step son & his Momma !!

grin

Jack & the Princess, well I let you deal with that, if you & Noah are successful.

Good Luck. Calling for colder & some snow up here tonight, tomorrow & the weekend, hopefully, it'll help us both out !

Noah shot his first deer last year. He was sitting with his uncle, who will also be along on this trip. Next year he can sit on is own. The missing too much school is why jack isn't going. I feel bad about it, I should have taken him to wi instead of mn based on deer numbers alone.

I face the same problem with momma about taking kids out of school. I think it is likely they learn more in a deer stand than they would have in school that day.

In a few years, I will have twins that will both be ready to hunt! I think i am looking forward to that day..... eek grin

When I was 10 years old, my Mom called the school and told them I wouldn't be coming in for three days because deer season was starting. She got a return call from my teacher telling her the principal had talked to her and told her she had to call us to let us know this would not be tolerated, and I'd be suspended 2 days for every day I missed. Dad got home from work that night, heard what had been said and went in to the school the next morning for a little "Come to Jesus" with the principal, the assistant principal, the teacher, and I'm sure anyone else he could extract a pound of flesh from. There was no suspension, and just to spite them he kept me up at camp for the entire week.
