Yesterday, I had a lot of fun at the range with my Hammond Game Getter. The HGG is a cartridge insert made from a modified 30-06 cartridge. It is powered by a nailgun blank and shoots lead round balls that are run through an included .308 swage with a 1/4 inch punch. The swaging creates a .308 cylindrical strip on the .32 round ball. The round ball is then placed in the cartridge neck and a #2 .22 nailgun blank inserted in the rear of the cartridge. The hole is offset to allow the centerfire firing pin to strike the rimfire primer. After firing your fingernail or a knife blade pulls out the spent blank.
Velocity with a #2 blank and a 53 grain round ball is supposed to be 690 fps. A #3 blank should produce 1100 fps.
In my Tikka T3 Lite 30-06, I was getting 5 shot groups at 25 yards from .50" to .75". By using the 2nd lower mil dot I was able to hit the bullseye with my rifle sighted with normal 165 grain handloads. There was very little noise or recall. I can't wait to try this on a squirrel or rabbit.
I also tried out a MCA multi chamber adapter in 7.62 x 25 Tokarev. This was fun too, but only managed about a 3" group at 25 yards. I used an allen wrench to eject the spent cartridge from the MCA adapter. About half of the Sellier and Bellou cases were split when they came out. I wonder what the velocity was here-1800-200fps?
The HGG has been around for a long time. If you want to join in the fun, just google Hammond Game Getter. They are available in a huge number of calibers?
