Not everybody hunts up north, so some are probably. Where we were in MN, it should be bucks only for the next 5 years min. We were in Douglas Co, WI this last week. This was the 2nd or 3rd year of bucks only. It's working. I saw 11 deer and 1 was a buck...a wide 6pt that offered no shot on thanksgiving morning. I saw more deer in WI this year than I have in the last 5 combined in MN. With that and the rules for youth hunting, WI is the better place to hunt right now IMO. The tent camp was exactly like I had imagined and I love it. I didn't want to come home. But tomorrow, will be my 5th day of work in November so I should probably show up. exactly why I probably wouldn't deer hunt MN again. I would gladly go to camp and carry a tag, but not "hunt" per se since the numbers statewide aren't the best all around from friends I've talked to. I'd much rather apply for areas, and maybe go a year without a rifle tag here and there, and archery hunt than go through that stuff for a deer. YMMV it's sad to hear, but I'm not surprised.

Joey, I hope you make that meat pole sag like heck with heavy bucks! Heck Joe, if hung all your grouse from it, it would prolly break. You should have a grouse hunting TV show.

Thanks for the comments Joey. That doe is little compared to the ones my co-worker took. 1 dressed at 130# and the other at 140#!! 140 is a big pig.

You cant use a 1 size fits all for MN deer hunting numbers. I passed up 7 bucks and prolly 50 does this year. My brother had similar numbers. I took my daughter out 3 days and she had good opportunities at 2 bucks and half a dozen does. The day before the season we counted 64 deer on a 6 mile drive around our area. Shooting a deer here is not hard. We really need more doe permits as we have too many deer.
Now i realize northern MN is way different. I really feel for those folks who hunt up there and sincerely hope that the regs change to help them out. I wish we could ship a few up there. I would be the first to donate a few deer to Chickenbuck!
I am glad I am not the guy who has to come up with the regs as someone would always be mad at ya.

But if no one's seeing any deer, why are we trying to fill doe tags? Unlimited metro zone doe tags. No shortage of them in the metro.

Way, way different. You're seeing 7 deer a day, we won't see 7 deer a year for the most part. I'd really like to see bucks only for anyone but kids, which is kind of how it is, depending on certain conditions. It's tough up there because weather is such a huge factor in the population. That said, the dnr screwed up plenty in the amount of permits issued for years. It was an over reaction to an under reaction of probably not enough issued previously. I'd LOVE to see the dnr stop reacting in drastic measures to fix the last issue. That would also go a long way to gaining the trust of hunters they've seem to have lost.

I don't know how much we will be at camp this coming weekend. A bunch of us are attending CCW class in warroad on Saturday morning. It starts late in the morning so that may allow for a short hunt Saturday morning, but it runs long enough to screw up the evening hunt for saturday.
Better shoot a txt before you head out there to visit, there is a chance it may be an empty camp this weekend.
Something clever here.

Pictures of our deer from Camp Isabella. A little something to start the day. All in all a very good year.
