I am in the process of getting two implants done. The implants were placed in Sept. If all goes well the crowns should go in this January.
A few thoughts...
Sounds like you did the wise thing by looking for a good Oral Surgeon. Lots of folks can do implants. Their abilities may vary. Prices can also vary. In my area I saw quotes between $4000 and $6000 apiece.
The experience my family has had with bridges is that the anchor teeth tend to fail after 10-20 years. Dentists that I have talked to have said the same thing.
I had heard that the implants are not quite as strong as natural teeth because the implant is not as wide as the original root.
I had not heard about the estimated 30 year life of implants. However, since I am 60, I suspect that this may not be issue.
You may have a choice between general and local anesthesia. I had my operation under local. It is still my preference. But there is something unpleasant about hearing tooth and bone crushed and drilled. At least the surgeon had a good stream of water on the area so I did not have to smell or taste burning flesh, bone and tooth.
You may also check dental insurance. The insurance does two things. First, it may pay a bit to the operation. Second it may declare a "UCR" Usual Customary and Reasonable price. That might, if the dentist accepts that insurance, provide a limit to how much it will cost you.
A lot of dental insurances, though, do not cover this operation, or might require a one year waiting period.
