looking for that one end all/be all/do all rifle that I don't have to spend 2K on-thinking the kimber 84M in .308 would be about right for most everything. What else compares well to this gun as far as quality, weight, accuracy and cost?

Weight is the tough one here. Weight aside, I say MRC and the nicer Winchesters. If you don't care about classic function and appearance, there's lots to choose from.
Why not just get a Kimber? Based on a sample of one, I tend to recommend the Longmaster in .308, which is a little heavier, but has a stainless, fluted barrel and nice wood.

It's tough to match the Kimber for the $. Maybe impossible. A NULA is nearly 3x the cost. Forbes (Forbes Rifles LLC) is as close at it comes for the money.

For the price, nothing compares to a Kimber.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

I'm over and done with Kimber for the future....
I'm keeping my K22 and 84M Classic 7-08 but
My next $1300ish rifle may very well be a Nosler

Does the nosler even compare weight wise?

Having just gone through a very similar decision making process when choosing a lightweight SA rifle, I was influenced by the following: 1. I found the Nosler Rifles to be heavy and therefore not in the lightweight rifle class. 2. When searching Forbes Rifle I found numerous threads outlining quality and customer service complaints on here and elsewhere. I really wanted to have a rifle with Melvin's name on it. I've put this decision off for several years hoping the Forbes project would come around. In the mean time Kimber seemed to really get their act together. I don't have any first hand experience with Forbes Rifle. I just wasn't comfortable, especially seeing that I'd most likely need to order a rifle and have it transferred in through my LGS. I should state that the interactions I've had with Melvin Forbes at NULA have been very positive. 3. Three years ago, I had the opportunity to handle a Kimber Mountain Ascent in Wexford, PA. If the guys behind the counter had been just a smidgen less dickish, I'd have bought it on the spot. After waffling back and fourth, buying a CLR in 7mm Rem Mag to send to WV for Melvinizing, and hunting down a minty HLA in 30.06, I finally, two weeks ago, made the trip over to Elk County Arms and Ammo and bought a Kimber Mountain Ascent in 308. It's a tack driver and so far I couldn't be happier.
In the end the only choice for me was between NULA and Kimber.

Finnlight is heavier and the plastic stock doesn't have the same build quality as the Kimber Montana. On average about 1 lbs heavier. Finnlight is comparable and just a bit more $.

Forbes is done. Over. Kaput.
You may find one someplace and if it has issues, get Melvin to fix it. If you get lucky, it won't have issues.

True the Finnlight is about a pound heavier than the 84m but it's still relatively light and has other features some find superior. Also the rubberized stock on the Finnlight is excellent in use. It doesn't make noise rubbing on stuff like the hollow Kimber stock. I agree the Kimber stock is hell for stout but I had a rubbing issue this year on the rivet of my jeans that was very loud while slinging a Montana. The Sako feeds quieter/smoother and is easy to quickly drop in a round sans fed from magazine. Can't do that on my Kimber.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I am a recent Kimber Montana fan. Tough to beat a sub-1" piece weighing ounce over six pounds scoped. Mine being a 270 Win and a new found favorite.

I've owned one nula and three kimbers. Sold the nula...
