I recently acquired an 1899 Short Rifle, Takedown in 25-35 number 141290. I have been keeping records on the 3 scarcer Winchester calibers in 1899s for several years now and have recorded caliber/model on just over 250 rifles/carbines in either 25-35, 32-40 or 38-55. This is the only 25-35 short rifle takedown in my records. There are no doubt others out there but my gut tells me anyone wanting a light short barrelled 1899 takedown in 25-35 would have purchased an 1899 H takedown which was advertised in 25-35 and not really rare. Gun is about 6/10 on condition with old tang crack repair, bore should shoot well, wood metal about 50% with original sights. Camera out of commission at moment. Always looking for more 25-35, 32-40 or 38-55s to add to my records. (model/caliber/as much of serial number as possible) BillR

1899A 32-40 95749 Thanks I added two to my list, now 254 in total. At about 500 I should have a fairly valid idea of production of these 3 calibers in various models. Bill

Sooner, What was the caliber of B 111756? Bill
My records indicate an unexpected jump in production of these calibers in the 160,000 to 190,000 range. I suspect that as most of the world was at war Savage used up whatever parts remained on hand to meet the public demand for rifles.

Bill, was just looking at a page from Callahans records and on the whole page I can only count 14 in 303 Savage, the rest are all Winchester calibers.
This is from one of the 79XXX pages.

I had your rifle on my list but as an A TD but no indication of it being a short rifle. Will alter my records and summary. Now we have two 25-35 TD short rifles. I wonder how many more are hiding in closets? BillR
