Greg Shiner Bock will be perfect. I am not going to sleep hardly a wink tonight. This year has been a rough one stress wise from work so when I slid down the Dinosaur tail today knowing I only have 2 days of real work left for the month it was one of relief and then anticipation for this adventure!
Been around 18 months since I my Dad and this just feels like a awesome way to break that streak.

AZ here we come!!

We have reached the promised land! Made SV about 6:30 local time and we are having a beer and some food at Texas Roadhouse. Both had long flights and are now out for a short time. Xmas parade is going on and if had been a little earlier we could have made it.

Well we spent the day with Greg and it was awesome as I expected.

We had a good breakfast and headed out to Greg's place to get a tour and then fondle the rifle. We spent most of the day there talking and just getting acquainted.

Greg went over the disassembly and maintenance of a Rolling Block. We will be annealing cases and maybe casting bullets tomorrow for a range day Tuesday.

I don't think my dad and I could have had a better day. I hope us 2 BPCR rookies didn't look to green when the finer points were discussed. Pics of some of this will get posted later.

Thanks for a wonderful day Greg and we will see you in the morning!

I found the Win. brass blush , will remain unsure as to why I had it in a kitchen cupboard ,...we'll get after initial prep, annealing and loading technique,...dunno' about casting, there's a fine inventory of good slugs on the shelf,...

Tues forecast looks PERFECT, and should be fine shooting conditions.

mack,

Looks like you're all enjoying yourselves. Nothing like some AZ sunshine in the winter!

I see all the other posts giving possible road trips for you while there. If you have "extra" time, take a trip up to Whiteriver/ Ft Apache on the Fort Apache Indian Res. Head up thru Globe and you'll also go thru the "grand canyon" of the Salt River, another cool canyon in AZ besides the big ditch. It's the type of road folks from the midwest and such never get to see in their area.

Oh, yes, it's the "real" Ft Apache. You'll be passing thru the lands of some great Apache warriors.

Enjoy the rest of the trip and the pics are great. Keep 'em coming.

We did some shooting yesterday.

Mack5511 is going to be a holy terror with this rifle, he soaks up the belt delivered by this rifle like a stump.

Jim is indeed good company, we had lunch together in Orlando. What a great fellow!

Thank you Tracy and Sam. I enjoyed spending time with both of you. Hopefully we can repeat it again sooner rather than later.

Absolutely beautiful wood on that rifle there mack.

Thanks for sharing such a cool part of your life with us.

Geno

PS, what caliber on the rifle, I missed that part somewhere along the line. 45-70? 50-90?

Everyone should see AZ at least once, but I say that about every state! I think I'm only about 15 short of having seen at least a part of all 50 (some of those parts are Interstate right of ways and what one can see from them).

Sure glad you had a chance.

Geno

PS, not sure if you're still down there at casa de crossfire, if so, ask him how the badges are coming along wink

Waved Adios' to these two fine characters yesterday around high noon. 4 days passed in fine company went by WAY to quick.
The opportunity to start with an old family / neighborhood artifact and craft up a strong, reliably accurate hunting tool evolved into the better part of a 2 year voyage, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Mack5511's a good photographer, and wielded my old D400 Nikon, as I did the preliminary plinking, and got the sights dead nuts.Once I was satisfied, I handed off to it's Father / Son operating team, and won't deny feeling just a mite proud of how this all played out.
Pics are worth more than words. No captions below, shouldn't be needed.
