Geez! I guess I got lucky with mine. I have shoved nearly 600 rounds through my rifle without a single hitch.

I followed the instructions from ShortActionSmoker and fixed my last round hang up with a needle file and measuring the feed lips with dial calipers. (.223 cal.)

A VERY simple fix that took all of 5 minutes.

I have ZERO issues now.

Didn't I read on the Campfire a while back about a member who was modifying these mags to hold and function with longer bullets, like those in the 70 gr range? It seems the guy was from the Memphis, TN, area.

IIRC, he was procrastinating with lots of excuses, but he was still planning on moving forward.

I NOTED WHEN I HAD MY MAG APART TO ADD THE EXTENSION,THAT THERE WASNT MUCH SPRING TENSION.
I BET IF YOU TAKE THEM APART,(PRETTY EASY)GIVE THE SPRING TWO TURNS INSTEAD OF ONE,THEY WOULD FEED ALOT BETTER.
THAT AND OPEN UP THE LIPS A LITTLE. sorry about the caps of course,it may create other issues.

I noted getting a replacement magazine.. that the spring on the new ones, was more centered than the original ones were as I had two of those left here, the original ones they were of to the left...

mine jammed up trying to fit more than four 223 cases in there and would jam on feeding constantly...

so I think Fluffy is onto something...

and was TZone originally said, he could get six 223 rounds into his magazine, a later production rifle than mine...

with the new replacement mags, each one will take 6 rounds with no hitch, plus feed like they should...

so it seems Ruger is finally on top of the problem....

I had a couple of Cotis's mags and they never had an issue... maybe he reset the spring to the way Fluffy mentions...

loaned one to a campfire member in Montana... and haven't heard from him since...would be nice to get it returned if he is done playing with it...

The replacement mags I received function OK.

Since Ruger did not want the defective mags back, I played with one of the defective ones and got it to work. On the rear inside wall of the magazine, there are protrusions from the ejector pins from the injection mold that made them. These are down where the 3rd round hags up. I used a small, flat file and smoothed the surface, lubed it with powdered graphite. It now works OK.

It did not work on the other defective mag, so I tossed it.

Sorry, I was unclear.

My magazine functions OK, so I'm not looking for a replacement. But, the present factory magazine well is too short to accommodate the longer bullets popular these days.

So, a guy in the Memphis area was offering aftermarket mags that had a longer well that would hold and feed the long cartridges. He had a plastic mold that was giving him trouble and thus was running way behind on his orders.

Anyone recall this?

Yes, but the machine was bought by another poster here. He's assured us they'll be produced, but I'm thinking this is more than a busy time for him at his day job. IIRC a thread in the Hunting Rifles section covers most of this.
