you know even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. I say that because there is no showing of any atmospherics being taken, no smart phone app being used. no density altitude measurement being taken. To say that shot is repeatable without using the tools I just mentioned. well thats like saying what I showed in the videos didn't happen. There is enough coriolis effect if this shot is shot east or west to cause a miss on a target the size of a coyote at that range. Heck even the difference in temp your load was developed a difference like 20 fps because its really cold would lead to a miss. John, you know all this.
unless of course your admitting the shot was a lucky one and perhaps the amount of tracking error in that leupold may have helped make the shot.
So your saying that actually hitting the coyote shows that my Leupold was not tracking properly.
Leupold Derangement Syndrome.
My butt itch just went into overdrive.

Right back at you SamO.
I am in for some SamO video and I sure hope "Rez style" means what I think it means.

Bragging about a 20 year old leupold that has only seen 100 rounds doesn't mean much.
I'll agree to this, and wholeheartedly so. And I'll also comment that those who constantly adjust a scope have a whole different set of expectations than the set it and forget it crowd.
That said, I own 4 leupold scopes.
One (purchased new) has been on the same rifle (.300 Winchester) since 1978. Kept a log of all rounds (8116) fired through 3 barrels between 1978-1983. This rifle is still in the safe and has been used casually over the last 30 years. No issue with this scope ever noted.
Second leupie was purchased new in the mid 80s. A 2-7x, it has been on at least a dozen different rifles. The rifle it is on now was built in 2009. Used up the first hundred brass, and discarded after 6th loading. 2nd hundred brass made 5 loadings, and currently on the 4th loading of my 3rd set. Say I'm approaching 1500 rounds fired through this rifle. Who knows how many rounds fired on the first dozen or so rifles it was on? No issue noted with scope performance. Ever...
My 3rd leupie is a 2.5x compact purchased new in 1996. It's been on 3 rifles that were lightly used for hunting. I used it more when it was on it's first rifle, but will guess it to have about 600 rounds fired under it. No issues ever...
4th leupie is an M8 4X, purchased used in 2001. It's been on 2 (both light varmint) rifles. Maybe 400 rounds fired through the 1st, and nearly 2000 through the 2nd. Call it 2400 rounds fired under this scope. No issues ever noted.
But they work uber-good for chip shots in the wind.
I had shot a 243 before the 270 so had a little idea on the Kentucky wind-age but hadn't shot the rifle since pulling the stock about a month ago. Happy to see zero POI shift.
I am still using about eight or nine older Leupolds ranging from an M8 3X through several Vari-X III 3.5-10 AO. None have yet needed repair.
I do not twist. I set most at either an inch or two high at 100 and go out and kill stuff. I can recall blowing only two shots in almost sixty years chasing mule and WT deer and a few other similar size game. Both were in heavy fog and I misjudged the distance. One under and one over estimated, and getting cute with near the head neck shots.
Knowing my trajectory, I have placed my bullet in the right spot with old fashioned hold over or on wind hold off, between really close out to way too far. At my age, new stuff is sometimes irksome. I'm not a sniper trying for a head shot through a small window in some mud brick hut at 800 yards, so why bother?
I have nothing against you guys paying Nightforce prices for glass. My hunting style does not require same. Leupolds have worked for me.
I have thought of running down to Mansfield and picking up a SWFA 6X MQ, but that would likely complicate my life.
Enjoy,
Jack
