This one came my way as a gift for services rendered. It's a 1931 commercial that, as far as I can tell, is all original except for the magazine. Barrel is a k-marked leftover from the 1924 transition production run that was common in these guns. Bore is spotless.

Finish is about 80-85%, with most loss on the front strap. No rust, pits or abuse except for a prominent take-down scratch. Stocks are checkered with 28-rows and in good condition; grip screws look unturned.

This gun was carried and shot, but not abused. There is observable finish wear along the right rear side of the frame and mainspring housing, evidence of use by a right-hander. Someone, probably a savvy street cop or deputy, carried this one daily but lavished the proper attention it needed to be found in this condition. This was a warrior's pistol. I like it.

Now you need a snazzy suit with wide lapels, spats, a fedora and a shoulder holster. wink

That's a beautiful old gun. My father bought a Colt Gov't Model in 1969, looked darn near identical to yours. Wish we still had it but a burglar got that one in 1981.

Don't know what services were rendered, or who your friend is, but I am doing something wrong, hanging with the wrong crowd? Very nice gift.

Roger that. The recoil spring was about 2" shorter than a new one...probably original. I put a GI 16 lb in, checked the firing pin spring (still correct length) and the mainspring. All good. I shot a couple of magazines through it...light AMU-contract match ball ("gay ball") that only does about 780 fps. Very easy on the gun. It prints nice little ragged one-hole groups to point of aim at 15 yards.

After cleaning, it has become my desk commando fondle-piece; I have other, newer .45s to shoot. What a lovely pistola!

Very cool! I used to own a 1918 Commercial 1911 that I had for same reason: cool to look at and shoot every now and again. I traded it off on an engraved 1911 I gave to my wife as an engagement gift. I wish I had the 1918 Colt back, but I still feel good about that trade.

Those old Colts are the epitome of "handcrafted fit & finish" smile

I ran into some Win FMJ flat point ammo. It seems to feed well in my Sistema, which is basically a knockoff of a 1911A1. That might be a good choice for old timers like this one. smile

That is a seriously fine old Colt. A nice pocket watch, gentleman's folder and a Zippo would pair nicely!

I bought one that took over 6 years to accomplish. A commercial model made in 1924 or so. I had to replace that hammer to keep from biting my hand when I shot it. It does work well and I use it often. They were meant to shoot...
