Can you come up with more bullschit to post?

"Many places that sell ammo don't carry 6.5 anything"? Maybe if you buy your ammo at the local gas station, but Bass Pro sells quite a bit of 6.5 ammo, as do Cabelas, Gander Mountain, and any decent gun shop will have several 6.5s on the shelves (.260 Rem, 6.5x55, .264WM, and possibly 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 Grendel).

"Most guns aren't chambered in 6.5 anything"? More bullschit. You can get Remington 7s and 700s, Tikka T3s, Savage bolt guns, and likely several more make/models in .260 Remington. Browning, Ruger and Kimber both chamber the 6.5 Creedmoor. 6.5 Grendel for another (really damned popular in AR platforms and Howa is putting it in their mini-action in 2016). Hell, you can still get .264 Win Mags in the Model 70. That doesn't even touch the rifles chambered in 6.5x55, and there are quite a few there, too.

"No mainstream cartridge in that diameter"? Define "mainstream"; because by your definition, it must not include the .260 Remington (offered as a standard chambering in both Model 7 options, several of the 700 options, several T3 options, and several Savage options), or the 6.5 Creedmoor (offered in several Ruger, Kimber, and Browning rifles). Are they the .30-06 or .270? No, but they damned sure aren't some hard to find cartridge in that diameter (like, say, rifle cartridges in .358").

Darn guys y'all know how to hurt a guy. I have a 6.5x51,6.5x257,4--6.5x55's, and a 264 win mag. I sold my 6.5-06 and 6.5-284 along with my 260 rem mountain rifle. However like Lane Simpson I am going to build a 6.5 STW. That nasty 7mm ultra mag and my 7 STW, 280. 7x57, 7-08 just don't seem to pop my cork anymore. It isn't the caliber so much as what do you like and feel good with in your hands on a hunt where ever. I am getting more and more fond of my 220 SWIFT stainless classic on these Delta hogs and a 55 gr Sierra Game King.

I have drank the coolaid in the 6.5 CCS flavor
Still considering 6.5 LBC
And I really like the idea of a Match Grendel chamber.

Recoil very similar to a 243 slightly less my my research. A cartridge that fits the mini action like a CZ527 is a real plus IMHO. With a BC that will handily deliver the goods out to 400 yards and many would say out to a thousand yards, whats not to like?

Weatherby should have forgone the 300 case and went 6.5-378 instead

The 260 did it.

It's hard to find a more shoot able under 400 yard cartridge for deer.

All the other variants are more costly brass wise

I like the "niche" cartridges or the new "cartridge of the month"; but, you are right DakotaDeer. The good thing about the "shelf at Walmart" cartridges is that at least they are proven and top of the heap cartridges.

the 6.5 saum or wsm would be a very interesting cartridge. Im thinking the saum version would be a dandy.

Over the last 10 years, the 260 has garnered alot of my attention. Extreamly accurate, easy on the shoulder, easy to reload, hammers critters just fine.

Nah...

Diminishing returns hits those mega 6.5's pretty hard. The 26 Nos need ultra slow powder, like Vulcan take down powders, for max performance. The new 6.5/300 Wby, (essentially the old 6.5 WWH), squeezes a few more fps but at the cost of even more powder. The 6.5 Thor and similar rounds bump the limits of practicality with only marginally enhanced performance for the amount of powder burned.

I'm sure you made that comment tongue in cheek, but it's an interesting topic for discussion, especially here on the Fire... grin

I've heard it said, it's not overbore if you can find a slow enough powder... smile

But, when you hit the ceiling on slow burners, you may be there... whistle

True, but considering the BCs the 6.5 RM would be a choice for involving a particular FN mag action...:)

I wonder how many older guys buy into these new cartridges. I don't have any calibers newer than 1970, and am not likely ever to.

I'm one of the older guys and I buy most anything new to try and load for. I do this so I can carry on a conversation with customers that enter my shop with questions about those chamberings.

I am mighty close to 70 and had a 6.5x47 Lapua built. I really don't see age as a limiting factor. I just picked up an 8 pound keg of H-4350 and 500 140-grain SMKs.

I am 70 and just built a 6.5 Creedmoor on a SA 700. I used a 24" #2 Shilen Match and put it in an HS stock I picked up here on the Fire Classifieds. Topped it off with a VX-3 3.5-10x40 CDS.

I am now 66 and I have newer 'rifles' than 1970 but...

I have a 6.5X55 I am TRYING to build a fire under its butt and IF it doesn't respond.....it is GONE.

I have a 284 Win, 7mm RM, 270 Win, 6mm Rem, and oh not to forget the 30-06. NOPE none newer than 1970. I'm not into 'pedestrian' bullets.

AFAIC If I can't get it done with those...I'm done.

I should have gotten the New Haven classic 6.5x55 at my local pusher's...er, ah, gunshop... before they stopped production. It sat on the shelf for two years. Went up a few days after the closing hit the news and that rifle was gone. But, two Creedmoors, a 6.5x257AI, and a 6.5RM later, I think I'm atoning for my offense.

I'm at 76 years and built a PacNor barreled Ruger #3 in 6.5X55. Love it. Downright deadly deer dumping doer! This last year, from individual parts bought from 24hr guys, I assembled a 6.5X55 Encore. 28 inch custom shop barrel. Definitely downright deer dumping deer dumper! 120NBT, 125 Nos Party.

Thinking about taking them to Newfoundland as my mighty moose mashers. Black bear too. 125 Nos Party, 130TTSX. What do you think?

Oh MY! HOW could I have forgotten? I DO have 1 rifle/cartridge NEWER than 1970!!! Sorry guys, an oldtimers moment.

I have a Rem 700 BDL 8mm Rem Mag. It was introduced in 1977. Jon R Sundra wrote the intro in Shooting Times and published some of the first loading data.

Okay guys, but I'd like to point out I'm talking about calibers, not rifles. All the rifles I have were built way after 1970.
