We gave a few gifts to the boys and my wife and I bought the kit needed for Alaska next year. Best of all was having the trio over and laughing our azz's off. It has been a while.
I always enjoyed buying gifts for the family, but we always tried to find out what they wanted or needed, instead of buying random useless gack. There was great satisfaction in being able to match up the wants and needs so the recipients appreciated the gifts. This year, I just retired so the income is sparse, and the grandson has acquired diabetes that creates extra expense for the daughter and SIL. We mutually decided to cut back severely and just buy for the grandson, and forgo the adult gifts. It seemed like something was sorely missing out of the Christmas season, but it is also a blessing in that there hasn't been the stress or the urgency to get all the stuff and make preparations. I think we may modify the process just a little, but it has been a more relaxing and stress free Christmas for us, at least.

How many peckers can a Pecker Checker check if a Pecker Checker could check peckers? (stolen from shootinurse)
Charlie, we got done feeding cows at 1PM, walked in the door and started drinking beer. Whiskey, belly full of prime rib, after dinner smoke, the usual.....grin
Yup. Pretty easy (especially with little kids around) to let gifts take over Christmas; after a bit there's nothing left.
"But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain--that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist." --Lysander Spooner, 1867
My grandson arrived from Nort Dakoter wednesday night and in addition to giving The Boss an autographed picture of John Elway he gave me a Ruger New Model Blackhawk in 45 long Colt. He knew I was looking for one....
