I own a Sukalle custom Mauser. I have since learned that Sukalle used 6 grooves in his barrel. I just assumed it was 4 groove. Can someone tell me the reason for 6 grooves and attributes or problems with such a configuration?

There are no problems. There are no real advantages. On the range or in the field, there would be no difference whatsoever. The only time there is a difference is when a barrelmaker who prefers to make one or the other is telling the story. GD

Shilen makes eight land and groove barrels. Land and groove count make no difference. It's the quality of the work that matters.

Shilen also makes 4 and 6 groove to go along with the 8 groove. A good barrel is a good barrel. Lands and groove count doesn't make a good barrel.

The one thing I've noticed is I got to higher MV wiht odd groove barrels, at similar pressures.
I'm not at all sure that it was totally due to the odd grooves though. But it certainly seemed that way.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....
