Earlier this month in my native CO they held the annual late plains deer season. I had a couple of doe tags for the season for units 102 and 103. The unit 102 tag was good for either mulie or whitetail and the unit 103 was whitetail specific. As a native son of the state I have access to a couple of good ranches in those units so I made a few calls and headed out. Here is the result:
A good heavy mature mulie doe, probably 170 lbs live weight.
A nice whitetail doe, probably about 140 lbs live weight.
So, I hunted 2 different ranches owned by 2 family friends, fired 2 shots out of my old 7mm Mag, killed 2 deer of 2 different species. I ended up with about 150 lbs of prime meat in the freezer. Let winter come, me and Mama will eat good this year!
