Why not give it a shot yourself...it shouldn't bee too hard...
ETA: Sounds like a cool idea...you could also maybe put the on/off switch inside & use either the prime/pump or fuel filler cap for the switch. Or, mount it on something that would hide the wire & run through the wall to the light switch...
That's a pretty neat idea, I like that. I have quite a few old lanterns myself. It would be pretty cool to figure out a way to do battery operated led lights too. The batteries could be accessed through a hole on the bottom of the fuel reservoir...
I have several older Coleman lanterns that I would like to have electrified to use in my gun room/mancave. Is there anyone on the Campfire that would be willing to take on a project like this? It would involve installing sockets that would take candelabra type bulbs, running the wiring inside the lantern so it would be concealed from view and installing an in-line switch in the cord. Failing that does anyone know someone that would perform this kind of work. I have tried local lampshops and they want a fortune.

Coleman makes battery powered lanterns that look almost exactly like the gas ones, and are rechargeable. We've had several - they don't seem to last a real long time, but are very handy when they are operational, put out a lot of light.

Having made my share of lamps from stuff like rocks and deer skulls I don't see it requiring a lot of technigorical knowledge. 🙂
I've got a pretty good collection of them old gas lanterns going and would love to do something similar on the back patio. Curious to see where you end up on this.

There are companies that make low voltage outdoor lighting replica lanterns. Low voltage need not be dim (think of your trucks headlights!) Perhaps parts to retrofit would not be hard to acquire.

Well, you have to consider that their time is money & anytime you're looking at good custom work, especially from a shop, it's gonna cost a few dollars...in fact, for something like what you're talking, about a lamp shop would most likely farm out at least part of the work to a fabrication shop.

And even then, 8 times out of 10 you'll end up just shakin your head and sayin " Well damn, I could of done that!"
Might want to check-some of those old Colemans are collectible and worth a few bucks

Hardest part would be trying to get it to glow right. The coolest part about them old gas lanterns is the "feel' of being around them. The hiss and flicker is kind of hypnotic. I know I've seen them done in museums and probably Disneyland or Cabelas.
