I have a 99H takedown in .303 Savage. It is a beautiful little rifle with around 95% original finish including the wood. I posted some pics here some time ago and the guys said it was rebarreled as the barrel marking; MANUFACTURED BY SAVAGE ARMS CORP. UTICA, NY, USA JULY25,1893 OCT3 1899 SEPT10 1907 MAY25 1909 JUNE1 1909 followed by _ SAVAGE in larger letters This marking is just forward of the rear sight dovetail. Left side marked SAVAGE HI-PRESSURE STEEL .303 The serial number is 169995 which is 1914, I think. Serial is matching on the action, forend and on the hollowed out butt stock. Barrel looks to be the full thread type not interrupted like on a Winchester takedown with and arrow and the word OFF stamped under the forend. It has the integral ramp with pinned sight blade on the front and a Lyman no.6 folding double leaf rear sight. I put a minty Lyman tang peep on it as it seems to suit the sight arrangement. It looks for all the world like an original rifle and I would like to get it lettered. Do any of you guys know the address of the Savage researcher who does this and what is the cost?

Look through "Miscellaneous good info" above. Therein you'll find the address and instructions for getting a letter for your rifle.

I went back and looked at your original posting. Given the high luster blue on the receiver I would guess that your rifle has been rebarreled with a Style 6 barrel which was used in the 1927-1928 period. I doubt that a letter will show a rebarreling but might show a work order number which would indicate that it was returned to the factory for some unknown work.
Also, you should refer to your rifle as an 1899-H as the 99-H is a different model (1923-1940 production) and not what you have.

Will look in the good info section for the address, Thanks. Thanks for the tip on the 99 nomenclature, Rick. I will try to get a letter regardless as it may show my rifle was originally a 22 hi power. In my neck of the woods there seem to be a lot of early 1899 rifles in .22 Hi power floating around.
