Anybody have favorite mounts, rails, rings for the model 70? I'm not determined to use a rail, as the primary use will be whitetails under 300 yards, but I would consider it. thanks, kstockfo

Leupold dual dovetails... Weavers are cheezy, regardless of what rings you use. Talley lightweights also work: Leupold PRW's: Talley steels: Leupold QRW's: It just depends on the look you want... Most any mount/ring combo made now days is strong. With that being said, I'd probably avoid the windage adjustable standard leupolds...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Inexpensive = weaver bases and Burris zee rings.
Slightly more = Talley lightweights.
Either system has worked well for me on numerous rifles, including M70's

For slightly nicer looking Talley's you can opt for their Signature bases. They make these for the mod 70 too

I like S&K with the bases that have ring pockets centred between the screws on both front and back.

Talley and Warne if I want QD. Leupold Dual Dovetail and Talley if I want PA. If weight is an issue Talley LW's. For some older guns I actually use Weaver.

On a long action I prefer the offset front dovetail. I must have a short neck or something because Talleys, or reversible dovetail up front keep the scope to far forward for me.

I'm not a fan of anything with dovetails, especially the windage adjustable versions. Unless you really need them, then you really need them. Talley Lightweights are my 1st pick, but I also like Burris rings in slotted bases.

I prefer the Leupold dual dovetail bases and Leupold rings on mine.
I do, however, have the Leupold QD rings and bases on my 7x57 Featherweight, as it one of the rare early 80's Model 70 XTR Model Featherweights with Factory Rifle Sights. Neither version has ever failed me.

For whatever reason, I haven't been pleased with LW's, QR's, PWR's, Talley splits, Warnes, old school Weavers, Millets, or Redfields.
Next stop, Dual Dovetails.

I use Leupold 2pc or Talley light weight on all my M70's. Both work equally well. I have used Leupold longer and they have never failed me.
