I have a SA 1999 that has a 20moa EGW rail on top, the 6-18x50 Meopta that is on top does not have enough adjustment to zero the rifle (is still 8" high @ 100) I have found 0moa EGW rails in the US but the store won't export to Australia, and the Montana is not popular in Australia so no one stocks specific gear here for them.

I know Winchester M70 bases will fit the action, but will a rail designed for a M70 also work ? I'm not sure if the load/ejection port is the same length/size. I would prefer a rail over bases and rings.

can any one also advise an optics store that does export to australia

kind regards

They are pretty helpful there at MRC. Any question I had with mine I emailed them and got a response back the next day.

Hi OR, assuming that you are 8" high then going to a 0 MOA rail won't help you as it would raise you even higher. Is it possible you have the wrong rail as you can't have it mounted backwards due to the screw hole layout?
Do you have a Kimber Montana rail?

Hmmmmm Brad im not sure if your taking the piss out of me or not

a 20moa rail gives you an extra 20moa of elevation adjustment to shoot long distance, if you had a 0moa rail and had your scope zeroed @ 100 and then changed rails to a 20 moa rail you will be 20" high at 100

if i was wanting to shoot 600+ things would be fine how they are, but the max i need to shoot is 400 and i need to be able to get a 1" high @ 100 zero but the scope is bottomed out

there is no way the rail is mounted backwards

and a M1999 is not a Kimber

I can zero my Kimber Mt 8400 w my Leupolds as I can with all of my 1999's w 20 MOA or 0 MOA rails . If your scope has very little elevation you may run out of room. Something sounded off was my only thought since the front of your scope will be higher still w flat bases. Not jacking w you. I do know MRC likes EGW rails for their guns, just not being made anymore as I understand. Good luck to you

i put my little VX3 2.5-8x36 on while i wait on a new rail, has 67moa elevation adjustment so should have no trouble getting a zero

will at least be able to get a shot in and play with the rifle in the mean time

EGW got back to me promptly, they have the correct rail and can ship to Australia.

and for interest they advise me that a Winchester rail will not fit the M1999.

good result
