My reply would be 'Why a Glock?'
I gave up plastic guns some where around 1959.

'Cause they're comfortable, accurate, concealable and they go bang every time?

Have and carry a 23 , most of the time in a paddle holster , and a Kahr CM 40 concealed. 23 and Kahr both fit the same paddle holster. The 23 is about the right size for me . Never liked the full sized Glocks or Sub Compact sizes. Wish they would make a 10 mm in a 23 sized frame!

Take a look at the gen4 Glock 29. Very close in size. Shoots well!

Gen 4 is an attempt to fix many of the known issues with 40cal Glocks. Gen 3 or 4 is a non-issue with 9mm's, not so much with 40's.

What are those known issues? I've had a Glock 22 for over 20 years and have never had any issues with it. It's very accurate and never has jammed or misfired. I carry a Glock 27'though.

I carried a 17 for 10 years and put 30,000 rounds through it without a breakdown. I switched it for a 22 when the new generation came out with rail grooves on bottom of frame for a light. I got a newer 22 (2005) when I retired. I carry it nearly every day. I put several thousand rounds through a 23 and a 23C. For short range work the 23 is fine but it is not as pleasant to shoot as the 22. Neither conceal well, the preceding anecdotal evidence notwithstanding. I have a Kahr PM9 for concealment. I just let a long sleeve shirt hang over the 22 for 90% of my carrying.

I carry a plastic gun in a Kydek holster because I have 15 rounds immediately available to me and the level 3 holster has never let me down. I have never had my Glock fail to fire or let me down. I am an factory armorer and have worked on countless Glocks. They are the most reliable handgun I have ever shot. They are NOT particularly accurate, however.

Jaytee: I own both the Glock Model 22 (two of these) and a Glock Model 23.
I have carried them both in a professional capacity and concealed - I am a large person and carrying the Model 22 concealed (well concealed) was not a problem for me.
I think you would do well to go with the 22 and its longer barrel and larger capacity.
But whichever you choose be sure and get the night sight option.
Best of luck to you.

Add to that, at least for me: they hit where I naturally point them, as opposed to say revolvers, and I like the trigger. In panic mode just yank the sumbitch. For accuracy treat it like a 2-stage.

RE: plastic........ yay plastic! smile I know there's a whole bro-mance to be had with handguns, and I've gone down that path a little with nice revolvers, Kimber 1911's, a few others... but to me a handgun is a tool and I got rid of all that and settled on a few Glocks and a Kahr. Durable, you cannot hurt the damn things, who CARES about them cosmetically, just strap it on and don't think twice about it after that. Just like a good flashlight or knife or any other tool. Function over form.

Arkypete: If you gave up on "plastic guns" back in 1959 then why on earth would you feel qualified now to deride Glocks?
I have used Glocks EXTENSIVELY, professionally and sometimes in life and death situations - I have COMPLETE faith in all the Glocks I use and have used.
Glocks are not an especially estheticaly good looking pistol but the are accurate, rugged, reliable and QUICK to get into action.
They also hold their value quite well.
Until something better comes along I think I will maintain my complete trust in Glocks and their performance.
Reconsider your opinion.

The 19/23 size gives up nothing to the 17/22 size guns in accuracy. And most folks find them more comfortable, I do. You can always use the larger magazines in them if you really need 2 more rounds.

I find most Glocks to be every bit as accurate as a typical out of the box 1911.

I have worked at a police range and fired hundreds of Glocks, new ones, repaired ones, showing off to recruits etc. I stand by my statement- they are not particularly accurate when you compare them to many other pistols. I have shot them out of Ransom rests and that gives you a very good idea of just what they are capable of.

I have shot some tricked out 17Ls that were really accurate but the police issue ones that I have shot don't strike me as being accurate. My Sigs, Smiths and Rugers - even my Kahr T9 were quite a bit more accurate.

At DOJ we had to qualify at 50 yards- even shooting from a barricade I could not keep them smaller than about 12-16". My Kahr T9 was more like an 8" gun at the same range on the same day. My revolvers were even better.

They are very reliable, very durable and very handy.

I have a 22 and a 23 and both work well. I personally find the 22 a bit easier to shoot accurately. Reliability is excellent with both. I use the 22 as a house gun. Nowadays, I mostly carry a 19 and in the summer a 26. I shoot Glocks in competition so that's what I carry. They're light and reliable and easy to clean. Most specimens are accurate enough for most anything except bullseye type shooting. My 34 shoots 1.5 inch 5 shot groups at 25 yards if I do my part. Between the 22 and 23 I'd say it's totally a matter of personal preference.

I would expect the 24, 34,35,40 and 17L to shoot excellent. The police models, not so much. I had a 17L that shot really well. It didn't have a trigger that would meet any police standard, however.

23 is a good gun, just bucks noticeably more in the hand than the 22.

Good luck with that. Since model 10 S&W's have become collector pieces for many the G27 is THE most traded handgun in the US, for a reason. Some dealers who take trade ins will point to the 4 or 5 G27's already in their used cabinet and smile and shake their head no.

I never liked any of the baby Glocks. To me they seem too thick to conceal inside the waistband. I prefer my PM9.

They obviously missed the recall on the original Gen 1 23's (I carry one.), where they pinned the recoil lug.
