You sure that's not an FX3?

If it is a FX3 I will take it. I always wanted to try one out. I am no Leopold connoisseur but I thought the 6x36 was the m8 and the 6x42 was the fx3

It is not an FX3. The 6x42, like the 6x36, was made as part of the M8 line along with the other Leupold fixed powers until the mid-2000s.

The FX3 is differentiated, cosmetically, from the M8 by the wider gold ring on the front objective.

Definitely a M8. The 6x42 has been made in M8, FX-III and FX-3 configurations.

In my experience, the apparent difference in view (note: view, not "optical quality" but what I saw through the scope) between the M8 6x36 and the M8 6x42 is more significant than any difference in view between the M8 6x42 and FX3 6x42, and I have had several of each over the years.
