I bought this on a whim and took it to the range this weekend, and I can't get used to the set trigger. Looking to free up funds for another rifle I found and want more. I'm not sure on history since I bought it used, but it doesn't appear to have been fired much. Aside from a couple small spots on the 416 barrel (may clean up, I'm not going to try) it all pretty much looks like brand new. It's a magnum frame with a 223 barrel which I believe is stock with the quick release forend matching the butt stock wood. The 45/70 barrel and the 416 rem mag barrel are both from the TC Custom Shop. The 223 barrel measures 26", the 416 rem mag barrel measures 25" with brake, and the 45/70 barrel measures 24". Comes with the Leupold std bases for all barrels. Missing 4 mounting screws but I may be able to find some. I have no idea what it's worth since I can't find values anywhere for the two larger barrels. MORE PICS: Thompson Center TCR 83

You bought it, you should know what it's worth. You know what you paid for it.
Don't mess with me, I'm too old to fight, too fat to run, so I going to have to kill you.

You bought it, you should know what it's worth. You know what you paid for it. I did some trading and bartering along with cash, so I don't have a reliable idea of market value.

From what little I have been able to find for past sales on guns and barrels, I'm going to ask $1600 for the entire package. That may be high, or it may be a great deal, I'm having a hard time finding anything comparable. If you feel I'm off in price, shoot me an offer and we'll go from there.

I was watching this thread. I'm out also.

And there is a reason you don't see them anymore. Bump for a nice rifle.

Two primary reasons;
1.) The fire at the TC factory that a lot of stuff was lost
2.) S&W bought TC and pulled out of New Hampshire because the Governor would give them a tax break so they moved to Massachusetts and have yet to reopen the Custom Shop where most likely the 45/70 and 416 barrels were made.
The TCR83 NEVER offered either of those calibers in their offerings. They "may" have been offered in the TCR87 line but I'm still leaning towards the Customer Shop especially the barrel woth the factory muzzle tamer on it.
Over the years I've owned 5 TCR gun's and currently have an "employee grade" TCR83 Aristocrat model (Double trigger) and all 10(?, have to check my records on total number) of the barrel's originally offered for this model.
So at $1600 he might be on the "high end" but an average barrel price ranges $300+ so he might not be that far off.
BTW, the TCR83 frame wasn't really designed to handle the recoil of the Magnum cartridges so the TCR87 redesigned receiver was better but you could have your TCR83 retro-fitted (cross pin) and you'd be fine with magnum ammo.

Thanks for your input GTP350.
In the past I have found that it's easier to come down in price, rather than go up when you're selling something. With that being said, if you're seriously interested in the gun, pm me and we'll talk.

SSK offered barrels in the magnum calibers. If they are from SSK, then they would be marked as such.

I agree with the David Walter that SSK did offer barrels for the TCR series receivers but as he said they'd be mark SSK.
Just dug through the archives as I have a stash of the old original TC catalogs for reference.
TCR83 offerings were;
22 Hornet, 223, 22/250, 243, 270, 308, 30/06, 7mm Mag, and 12ga Slug
TCR87 offerings in 4 barrel types;
Light Sporter- 22 Hornet, 222, 223, 22/250, 243, 270, 7mm08, 308, 30/06
Medium Sporter- 223, 22/250, 7mm08, 308, 32/40
Shotgun Field barrel w/Bead Sight- 12ga 3" Mag w/Full choke, 10ga 3 1/2" w/Full choke
Shotgun Slug barrel w/Iron Sights- 12ga 3" Mag
Any barrel configuration outside these "standard offerings" would be considered special order and go through the "Custom Shop" which may or may not have stamped the barrel with their logo.

BTW, I have an extra 7mm Mag barrel available if someone is looking for a TCR83 or 87 series barrel.
