Ok, Mauser mechanic question. I have an FN action just barreled to .280 Ackley Imp. The original bottom metal was trashed and I had a nice Interarms bottom metal handy. Fit good and feeds perfect. All except a negative lip at the feed ramp. In other words the feed ramp overhangs the magazine well. Roughly a 1/16" of an inch. During range testing one of the last things before sending it for metal finishing was to load the mag full and run a fire test. The last cartridge hung up under that lip. Question is about reshaping the ramp. Everything is fitted to the new stock etc.

If you're handy with air tools or a dremel, use a black sharpie to colour the overhang from underneath, use a tungsten carbide bit to remove the excess, flip it over, and blend the top side to match the existing shape.
If not, a gunsmith could do it cheap enough.
Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Thanks. A gunsmith friend got back to me on this and I got brave enough to Dremel on the receiver. Me and Dremels having a history I was a little skitish. I normally use files, but in this case the Dremel was the ticket. Feeding being the issue here It dawned on me finally that that area of the ramp is below the interface with the cartridges so just a smooth transition from the box to the ramp above was needed.

I also need to chamfer the chamber mouth slightly as it is sharp and the 40 degree shoulder, and occasionally the leading edge of the case, on the .280 AI is smacking into it (stopping and denting). Since I am having to reach through the action to accomplish this I am trying to MacGyver a tool to get this done. Any suggestions out there? I would like feeding to be reliable when a buck jumps up.
