I'm not a man cause I don't work on my own stuff then again I drive one of those as you say piece of [bleep] new trucks but in the last 2 yrs I only had to do oil changes no rebuilding transmissions now rebuilding this no rebuilding that.. anymore we get the ford 100,000 mile warranty but I rarely keep a truck for more than 3 yrs...
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

Does the motor knock all the time or just for a little while at first start up. Those 5.3 engines were known to clog up the knock sensors that are under the intake.
My wife's 2001 Yukon had that problem. It would knock for a couple minutes on cold start up and then go away after it warmed up. New knock sensors solved it.
Just a thought.

Having done both used motors and crate motors - I'd prob not do a used one ever again, save some sorta fun buggy for off roading that wasn't going to see the street. Long Block 5.3 for less than 2100

An '07 being nine years old would have to be in perfect condition to worry much about a used LS. The market is absolutely flooded with 5.3's, grab one from the junkyard, spend a weekend on the swap and run the piss out of it.
Guys don't believe me about the NP246 going tits up until it happens to them. There's also all the bullchit electronics and computer controlled parts to the 4x4 system that sucks on the chevy's and other new trucks. My next pickup is going to be an older 96 GMC sierra 4x4 with lock in hubs, manual transfer case and first gen vortec... Good luck to the rest of you bastids buying $50,000.00 pick up trucks.... TerryK is right. A lot of chit can go bad on these after 100,000. My tranny went at 111,000 miles, the front diff went at 115,000 and my transfer case went at 139,000. Gov loc (G80) went at around 125,000 miles...I'm driving a damn near new 2004 GMC now though...
Aftermarket?

you can get used 5.3s for 600-800$ all day long. buy one of those, and have it rebuilt for 1500$ (at most) and have him install that

I bought a 2005 new. I slammed a bunch of money into it at 95,000 and I figured I would keep it another 10 years. Two weeks later the transfer case grenaded (common) and all the brake lines needed replaced and the rust was like a deep cancer. Anyway I traded it on a new Subaru outback and got a cherry first generation Tundra. I feel that was the best move. I would get a used motor installed for under 2000 and trade it on a reliable truck.
