So what was buffed out near the the bottom on the right side of the receiver. Looks like someone's name. Could be wrong. Just looks like it on my ancient monitor.

Tempting. Already got a couple in 284 otherwise we'd be talking more seriously about this. The only 30/30 I have is a barrel band H and that's a sweetie...
$800 is cheap for a 99 in 284.
