I sent my .416 ruger guide gun to rick stienhour of extreme rifle works in texas to have it put on a diet and make it more functional as a tool for my guiding. haev about 100 rounds thru it and several hunts so its not spottless straight from the smith anymore but these pics will give you and idea.
It came back at 5lb 11oz, new stock to fit my shorter arms and smaller hands, fluted and dimpled bolt, turned down barrell action and front sight, rear sight removed (have a peep for it), moved the sling stud to the nose to elimnate busting my fingers, shortened the forend of the stock about 5 inches, cerakoted it and installed a new recoil pad.
the gun fits amazing, handles amazing, shoots awesome. we have 300 gr TSX at 2600fps right now, its shooting about 1.5" groups but we haven't played with the load to much at this point. i'm thrilled with the gun, ricks turn around was less than three weeks since the post office lost the gun for 21 days...i was running behind and rick hammered it out and sent me updates almost every day on what he was working on next!

Ah If a Brown bear is in front of the scope, what's a little recoil grin

I like what you had done a true purpose built rifle.

This here. Carry a lot, shoot a little. Great tool, and that is just what it is.

Wow! What a beast!

I've never hunted anywhere where I'd (or a guide) need such a monstrous hammer, but it definitely sparks the imagination. cool

Although (not in a guide gun), it's kind of surprising the 375 Ruger isn't more popular with elk hunters.

Very nice!

Wow--that is awesome! Any idea what kind of exact weight came off at each juncture?

For example, how much weight was lost from the flute/dimple?

I'd bet less than 2ozs.

You're a better man than me to own a 5 lb 11 oz 416 smile

It will be nice to carry though. What kind of stock is that and I wonder how it will hold up to the recoil since it looks like a lightweight.

I'll bet that it an MPI.

Did you go with fiberglass, or Kevlar?

graphite/kevlar stock. i thought it would feel cheesy and fragile. but i gotta say its a tough feeling stock, it has anarrow pistol grip for my small hands but feels more sturdy than my stock on my NULA 416 i used to use. i'm impressed with this stock.
i'm not gonna put it in a lead sled and shoot it needless to say, i'm not bench competition shooting with this thing. zero it and the rest is usually off hand or kneeling, no point proving my scope is on just for kicks and giggles.

I can dig it! Definitely a purpose-built workhorse.
I am not flush with envy in standing behind it though. smile
