I realize that it is not very stylish of me, but getting back to the original point: Suppose you were drinking your favorite beverage, talking about important stuff with your friends. And then somebody you don't know from Jack Scheit sits down at your table and won't shut up. Maybe he even talks like a Damnyankee.

The Larry Roots of the world are not very subtle. Make it easy to chop them off at the roots. Don't abdicate the responsibility to the moderators. Why create a system that demands the attention of the moderator when it can be handled by the users. It is no different than schools demanding that students report bullying. Dammit! It is a lot faster (and cheaper) to just punch them in the mouth.

In the case of trolls, putting them on ignore is punching them in the mouth. Attention is their oxygen.

Give every user an axe that is easy to use.

Never seen the need to put anyone on ignore, it's just the internet, it ain't that serious. If someone has proven to be an idiot, I'll most likely just skim by their post. Often, if I forget to skim an idiots post, I'm quickly reminded as I read it.
