Fellow hunters I have a question for you. Our rut just started mid week. Tomorrow wind is supposed to be terrible like 15-20mph. The moon phase is perfect and the rut is just right, do you think these two positives will be enough to have the Bucks moving even with terrible wind conditions? Debating on going or not.

be in the stand all day, just forget about the wind during the rut. old boy is only worried about one thing.get a teanager after some little girl and see if you can get his attention. its like a buck goes thru puberty every season.its all about seat time during the rut.

Interesting that where you are a 15-20 mph wind is "terrible". I don't know AL deer, but deer in other places will be goosey and flighty in high winds (treetops clacking together) but during the rut the bucks still move. They were hot at it in hard wind blizzard conditions while I was out this fall (WT deer). You might have a great day, go out and see. Post pics of results.

Matt -

I don't remember who, but someone said,

"The best time to go hunting is WHEN you can".

Earlier someone said here and I've said it to friends,

"I can't kill a deer sitting in the house".

Good Luck

Jerry

Well I will be out there, just set the alarm after packing up my gear. Going to be around 18 degrees wind chill with 85% humidity in the morning dang cold for southern Bama.

Several years ago I killed a good 9 pt in a storm, raining sideways. He was running a doe.

Sat this afternoon with 20 mph winds. Didn't see any deer. But sure wouldn't of seen any on the couch.

I say go.

When I was younger some so called old timers would tell me-- once in a while-- certain rules about deer hunting. What deer do during these times... Wind, Temp.,rain, snow, time of day and so on. Now I'm the old timer. I've learned that there are no rules.

Hunted in the rain and wind at the beginning of this year in Southern Alabama and killed the nicest buck yet there. Everyone saw nice bucks in less then optimum weather . My buck was so rutted up I could not be downwind of him after he was down.

444; I have killed deer in winds so strong you could not hear the trees fall for the sound of the wind; that is no exaggeration. Hunted leeward side of a hill in buckbrush where no bigger trees were present. As well I have successfully hunted deer at -40 to +50 (really warm for November up here) in clear sky, heavy fog and serious blizzards.

In short I agree with all the other folks above, go out hunt and have a grand time. smile

best of luck to you sir. Please post pictures if you are successful.

The FIL and I sat in a shooting house this afternoon here in SE BAMA and didn't see anything till the wind died down about 5:00. We had a small 4 point come out and then at doe. I let him take the doe for a friend in need of some meat. This was my FIL's second deer this year and his first year hunting in 50. He's pretty hooked now.

I never see deer when the wind is blowing steady. That said, I would still go hunting if given the opportunity.

Yeah that's the exit but he did hit her a little farther back than I would like. He was a bit excited.
