Just some BTDT advice:
If you already have and listen to a scanner type radio on any kind of regular basis, I'd suggest that it gets turned off anytime your kid is out driving, otherwise every vehicle accident call reported around your area will likely have you on edge, worrying if it might be your kid.

I'm installing a new carb on my CJ5 right now. My 4yr old is LOTS of help with that,  but once it's running, the hands-on portion "driver's ed" will be a continual thing in the mountains and desert. I've already created a VERY defensive driver by watching drunk Russian drivers on youtube with him. His comments from the back seat let me know his little noggin' is watching and processing his surroundings a LOT more than many adults.

I does go by like lightning. My oldest boy will be 18 Dec 12. It makes me sick to know he isn't gonna be around much longer. I hope he doesn't forget about me when he leaves. Hurts my heart to think about.

Did the single dad thing for 14 years while my kids were little kids. My daughter is now 40, good career, married, a grand daughter, great husband. I can honestly say that she never once caused me any grief, problems, heart ache or trouble.  .........and yes, I still remember the shock of the driver's ed class.

I have about 6 years before that happens for me with my daughter ... but it feels like it's only been a couple of years since she was born. So I'm guessing that I'm going to blink a couple more times, and she'll be telling me the same thing. FML.

We raised three and the first serious scare came when the Oldest called from Naples Italy and told us she just barely avoided Captain's Mast for getting caught Drinking under age at an Officer's Club with her Petty Officer.lol What, was the grappa not kept in the cask long enough?  Geno PS, seriously, I hope she's turning out to be a fine adult and please do thank her for her service to our country.

'Can't believe that my Daughter is going to be 20 in a couple of months, I was just thinking about that today. Fella I work withs daughter got her license last year. She wrecked his car twice backing out of the driveway and hitting a tree at the end of it. once so hard it knocked the rear suspension out of alignment
