What are my options for scoping a mini 14 that does not have ring bases in the action? Thanks

I wish mine would have shot that good at 40 meters. I shot at a fox coming in to a call at 150 yds. about 8 times, gave up, dumped the magazine, still no luck, then ran after him and tried to beat him to death with the butt stock.

I think a company or two make scout scope mounts for them. It may be handy with quick detach mounts . If your horseback, just leave the scope off. It would fit in your old scabbard and if you hobble and go afoot you could just put it on.

I had an early 1/10 twist Mini. With 55 grain surplus ammo it got 6 inches at 5o yards. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I bought it lightly used so I wasn't out a ton of money. It has a 1/8 twist heavy barrel on it now and shoots much better but it cost me some big dollars.

I must say that I relearned the meaning of the word "frustration" on each of the 5 or 6 attempts I made to scope a Mini-14 of either the original or Ranch versions. 8-inch groups at 100 yards and a wandering zero look even worse at 9x than they do through iron sights.

A fellow Range Control person bought one.
He was sighting it and asked me to help him adjust the scope because he was having trouble.
Was not him or the scope, chasing a wandering zero was just a waste of time and ammo.
Apparently some of them, especially the newer ones shoot very well, needless to say his is not among those.

With a little work you can get 'em to shoot' That is what a $500 AR will do with GI ammo. Mini's cost $7-800 now. Not worth bothering with, and damn sure not worth spending money on a scope mount for.

This one cost me $550 and I enjoy "bothering" with things.
Funny how some of you get your panties all in a wad when a discussion of the Mini 14 comes up.

Funny how some of you get your panties all in a wad when a discussion of the Mini 14 comes up. Suit yourself dude. Fed GM 69's will shoot MOA out of ANY decent 223. A decent shooter should be able to hold 3 MOA with irons prone or bench supported. If your mini won't do that with proper ammo then what good will a scope do you? If you like it, then by all means keep it for a beater/shooter, but "bothering" with Minis won't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but it is your money/time/ammo. Enjoy.
