Not exactly what you were after, but I shot this 5-shot group out of my dad's Savage Predator 6.5 Creedmoor yesterday with the 140 ELD Match bullets.

I shot a couple of other groups that went about the same. Spot is .75 moa for what that's worth.

Based on that very limited sample size, I'm pretty optimistic about the ELD lineup overall, and will be trying some in my 7 mag asap.

Dave, thanks for sharing. I don't think many have tried the ELD bullets. That group is promising. I'm under the impression that the ELD is along the lines of the A-Max. The ELD X from what I've read has a jacket that is thicker toward the back to improve up close performance over the old A-Max yet still work well at longer range. Hornady also claims an improved plastic tip that doesnt deform or melt slightly at high velocity improving BC down range.I have some on the way that I'll be useing this year in a 6.5 Swede.

If the ELD X for hunting truely is an improved A-Max it should be very popular.

I am a little surprised some of our hard core A-Max fans haven't had anything to say about the new Hornady

I agree with your thoughts completely Shod.

I think part of the issue is that they aren't widely available yet. I did see the 6.5 140s and some 7mm 162 Match in Sportsman's warehouse over the weekend, so I think we'll start to see more reports soon.

I tried them in my 6.5 Creedmoor, same load as 140 VLD
I always seem to get one out of the group at longer ranges.

4 shots at 710 yards only 4 because the first one missed the steal to the right then corrected for wind. This was actually with RL26 when I was testing that powder in the Creed.


5 shots at 903 yards, first shot was to the left, next two hit to the right of the orange , fourth hit low and fifth back with the other two.

Nice shooting 8.

This was 417 yards with RL26 in the Creed, this was the best of 3 loads in a slight left to right wind.

What length barrel do you have on your Creedmore? And what velocity with RL26?

Haven't bought or shot any yet but I know they are starting to filter in to gun stores. My Cabela's here started to get a few boxes on the shelves!

45.5 load of RL26 is 2840 average,
For reference my load of 42.5 H4350 runs 2850 average with the 140 vld

Were the tips straight or crooked?

Anyone know how these compare to the 140 gr SST when it comes to on game performance in something like a 260 or 6.5x55? Even though they are just coming out now I'm hoping someone has actually tried them on game already.

Somehow I missed seeing that somehow Fois, thanks. It will be neat to see how the 143 gr ELD-X hunting bullet does. Time will tell how they compare to the SST and if it is indeed softer.

We have been having jacket separation issues with the 178 and 143 too.
