Dave-it wasn't all that long ago that I heard on the news that Dunwoody Institute was having great success placing their machining students up on completion of the program. They pretty much had a list of employers waiting for graduates to put to work. My neighbor runs a machine shop here in Prior Lake and they've expanded twice in about 10 years, and the guy's son actually bought/inherited the business and they're busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. Good luck to Nate. He'll do fine.

It's also good to look at where a person plans to settle down. Not to tie the young man down but if he plans to stay in this area, look for a career that he both enjoys and can make a living at in the area. I knew that there was a 95% chance of staying in this area because of my ties. It wasn't set in stone but something I had to consider. I did the farming thing, college thing, factory thing then decided to buy a bunch of construction equipment, quit my job and retire. I've never been so busy in my life after that last choice. I love my job and where I live. Win/win.

Chickenbuck Joe got himself a Tikka T3 on his 12th birthday today! Chambered in .308 Winchester. At the store. Back at home.

Joe's smile tells the story!!!
Looks like his new 308 has some decent grain in the stock. Nice rifle to say the least.

Very cool! I'm bet his grin just won't quit.

Excellent!
This thread world needs more "smilin' like heck!" pichers!
Joe, that .308 will have no problem with elk. Your Dad should take you hunting for them.

Dave, if you have time, take some closeups of the stock. It would be fun to see.... I am sure Joe wouldn't mind showing it off!!
By the way, Steelhead has a fantastic load for 130 TTSX and TSX's. It is really accurate and will tip things over.
Kind of funny, Joe is stepping away from the Swift and I am starting to use it for deer...

I have to say, sitting with Joe and watching him drop 2 deer in lights out, bang flop fashion... I have to believe that velocity kills. Speed kills. I've shot a lot of deer and I've seen very few that went down as fast as Joe's 220 swift deer. I probably wouldn't have tried it myself prior to seeing it work so well. But I would hunt deer with my 220 swift now. I have shoulder problems currently, so something like this could b in my future. Anyways, here are a couple crappy cell phone snaps of the tikka's stock.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

That is a nice looking stock. Joe made an excellent choice.
Shoulder issues are no fun. I also have them and the reason I have went to the Swift and .22-250 for hunting deer. Mine are 1-8" twists.

Awesome rifle CBJ! That Tikka has some nice looking wood on it Joe. Great job picking it out! Joe, I sure hope you keep smilin like heck, it brightens my day I can tell you that! The .308 is my second favorite round behind the .280Rem. With the bullets used today, and now that I can reload a bit, the .280 seems like a pile of overkill to me on a deer. I LOVE shooting Jack's .223 and when he out grows the stock, I'm going to get a full size for it. I love that little rifle. We did some trading and traded the 7600 carbine 30-06 into a new Winchester M70 Compact .308. I'll try to remember to get some pics up of it. When we were at the store the gun dude kept saying that will make a great rifle for your son. Ummm... no, no it won't. But his dad will sure like it. I've been wanting one of those for a loooong time.
Camp is where you make it.

The M70 compact is also a great choice Tom.... The LOP on the compact fits me much better than the regular M70's, especially during deer season when you have a lot of extra clothes on.
