Okay, I'm really falling under the 99 spell although I had never even picked one up until about a week ago. That was a pretty nice .22 HP that a local gun store has for $550.

The picture on the cover of my new Nosler reloading guide is not helping my resistance any. Beautiful rifle. Anybody know what model that would be? Appears to be checkered under the forearm but that means little to me at this point. Also, would you consider this a "Gray Rat" due to the wear on the receiver? I suppose I'm applying this term wrongly to what probably is the diamond in someone's collection.

I think it's a G. I'd call it a Grat.

Crap.. had that sitting on the shelf for 3 years and never even noticed the 99 on the cover. Definitely not a G.. EG in 300 Savage. Don't look d&t'd, or I'd say it looked REALLY similar to my 1945.

Wonder if it's the same 99 that's leaning up against that hanging buck. Can't tell much about that one except it's got sling studs and looks like a Stith.

Missed that one, didn't ya? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

So there I am squinting at the rifle leaning up against the deer and thinking "dang, this guy is good! I'm lucky just to make out it's a rifle let alone a lever gun."

Then I discovered your secret. You cheated. You opened up the book! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Pretty cool that the man himself used one of these rifles back in 1956. Guess that's recommendation enough for me.

GD: Yup, Dillons and Partitions. Things that work.
