I posted this question in the gunsmithing section and didn't get any help over there so I thought I would try here. What type of plug screw is required for a 1953 model 70 FWT to fill the holes on the side of the receiver where a peep sight would be mounted?
With or without stop? Where is a good place to puchase other than e-bay? Brownell"s does not appear to have them.

Thanks

You need a 6-48 positive stop screw. There are many online shops that sell these. May I ask why you don't want to buy from ebay? A good guy there (Tdail3), Tommy Dail, sells them there for about $12.00 plus shipping. They work great on the pre 64 model 70...

You can also use the sight plug screws that Numrich gun parts carries. Hope this helps.. pre 64 model 70 sight plug screws

BSA do you know where Mr. Dail is from The name is familiar to me as I once sold a NIB 358FWt and a Super Grade 7MM to someone named Dail.

Yes, Mr. Dail is from Tennessee. I've bought stuff from him on ebay when my smith was out. I've also emailed him when I needed a part and he's always came through for me. Pretty good guy from my experience. Hopefully he didn't part those beautiful rifles of yours out. I hate to see clean model 70's parted out, but that may be the case here????

It might be the same person. He was from either Tennessee or Kentucky and a big M70 collector. He went through those guns with a fine tooth comb. He sent me a big list of things to look for so I doubt they were parted out. I'd like to have that SG back.

I bet, those are pretty rare. I still wish Winchester would have made a fwt 7x57 and 257 Bob..!!

Yeah me to. I sold them both almost 20 years ago as I was never going to use the 358 and had another one and the SG was just to nice. I used the money to buy a nice Parker 20ga which I still have and use so I guess it was a good decision.

I'm taking care of the FWT 7MM by having a light stalking rifle built on a Mauser action. Chamber marking will be 275 Rigby.

Thank's BSA1917

Nothing against E-Bay. Was just looking for other possible sources and was not sure which type of screw was required. I bought a "correct to period" sight hood on E-bay for the same rifle. Now all thats needed to put in original condition is the right plug screws.

I may be mistaken but I thought that the screws with the positive stop were used to plug the scope mount holes. The holes for the receiver sight used plug screws without the shoulder. I order screws from Brownell's, they're not as pricey as those on eBay.
