Thought I'd start a discussion on the good old 264. With Nosler really toting their 26, it inspired me to start playing around with the 26" M70.
With the Model 35p set at 8 feet, 63 grains of 7828 and a 140 Accubond is getting 3140 fps with very impressive SD's. Accuracy is outstanding. I tried Hunter, Magnum, Retumbo and H-1000 but just couldn't match velocity or accuracy of the 7828.
No pressure signs, however, Nosler brass as we all know is soft and after 4-5 loading a the pockets are loosening. It's unfortunate because it's good brass otherwise.
I was considering necking down RWS 7mm but didn't scratch that itch yet. I do like RWS brass though so I can see that project in the future.
Anybody still love their 264's or did everyone jump on the 26 Nosler band wagon?
Anybody try the 129 LR Accubond? It came out after I stashed a bunch of 140's so I never got around to it yet.

I recently sold a Sako L61R in 264. This rifle was . stocked in very nice French Walnut and sold with Sako rings The barrel however was only 24" I started the price at $900 and had to lower the price to $750 to get any attention. Not sure there is much love for the 264 these days. I still have some new brass if any one is interested.

I've made .257 Wby cases out of .264 WM brass. Easy trip thru Wby die. Shoulder not fully formed until fired. Then you can't tell'em apart other than reading the headstamp.

It's certainly a cult following round. I still can't understand why Remington made their Classic with a 24" barrel?
Anybody try Reloader 33 with the heavier pills?

Love my 264. Win Mod. 70 26" barrel. It goes to the range every time I go.
Shooting the 142 LRAB pushed by some RL 33. Touch over 3100 for 10 shot over the magnetospeed. Shoots some itty-bitty bug holes when I do my part.

Anybody ever stand a .264 case up against a .257 Weatherby? I was surprised. What was your revelation? Anybody try Reloader 33 with the heavier pills? I did. US869 was my huckleberry though. I going to see what warp speed I can get the 120 TTSX to go with said powder. Would never do a RUM or Nosler round myself. I cured myself of magnumitis a number of years back.

I completely forgot about the 142's.
My rig I'm running is a 2012 FN SC Super Grade. I bedded the action and barrel channel. It's a slick shooter.
I squeezed 3200 out of it in past with 7828 but I backed off for the brass life sake.
I'm betting necking down RWS 7mag stuff would be the cats meow. Those RWS case heads are tough as nails!

Oh yes, I must mention too that in my quest for top tier accuracy, I spoiled myself on a set of Redding Competition dies. Along with the body die of course do I can bump a thousandth since this rifle sees time in the field.
I tried 3 sizes of bushings. Likes a tighter hold with the Accubonds. Doesn't surprise me, harder bullets for whatever reason prefer a tighter bushing in my experiments.

I have a pre 64 model 70, I bought in 1975, it came with a 6x Redfield wideview, I just replaced it with a 4X12 Vortex. I used to use Sierra bullets but they are very destructive on mule deer so I switched to 125 gr partitions and 120 gr ttsx. I have been trying to develop a long range plinking load, I have come up with a fairly accurate load using the 142 gr Sierra match bullet and Ramshot magnum, shot a group that measured 2.9 inches at 300 yards. The 264 will do anything the 26 Nosler can do and it costs less to reload, Nosler brass is overpriced, so are their rifles.

Price is coming down on 26 Nos brass.
Quality is excellent.
You can push a .264 to near 26 Nos performance. But the laws of physics indicate pressure is pretty high. With comparable pressure, the 26 stays ahead of the .264 by a margin.
I find the Nosler round less finicky, easier to develope accurate loads. Although, others on the Fire have invested a lot more time with the .264 than I have. That's my experience.
Said another way, that's my story and I'm sticking to it..

Anybody try Reloader 33 with the heavier pills? My 264 WM has a 24" barrel and I have never found it lacking. When the barrel was newer I ran 130's up to 3300 with Retumbo but chose to run it at 3200 since I'm not really a guy who likes to hot load. The barrel is getting near the end of it's life now but I would consider a 264 WM again over a 26 Nosler.

The 129 accubond LR, shot poorly out of my custom 264 win mag, but the regular 140 accubond, with 7828ssc, loaded to 3160 fps shot lights out. My tikka 260 loves the nosler 129 ablr's though

Love my model 70 with a 26 inch barrel. shoots itty bitty groups with nothing done to do it but adjusting the triggeer.
