I picked up a new Taurus Tracker 22 mag revolver with significant cosmetic damage. I am planning to completely strip the finish, bead blast and Cerakote.
Nothing tried so far will remove the black coating. I'm going to try lacquer thinner once I remember where it is. Anyone been through this process?

Tried lacquer thinner without success. It seems like it's blued but bluing remover does nothing to it.

If you're going to blast it.....why worry about it.

Bead blasting is not your best prep for coating. 120 grit aluminum oxide will strip the finish and leave you with the perfect surface for coating. Plug your barrel and cylinder and stay out of the inside of the action.

I probably don't need to strip it before blasting but wanted to start with an even surface finish. Aluminum Oxide is said to be better but I've had no issues so far with bead blasting.

I'm considering parkerizing since I've never done it before.

You're asking for it on a revolver if you don't use AO or garnet. The lack of tooth that glass bead leaves may work on a rifle, but the gas cutting, holster wear and friction in a revolver will possibly lift if bead is used.

It's worth the $10.00

The Taurus is going to be my guinea pig for parkerizing. I now have all of the supplies except the solution and my son made a small stainless tank for me yesterday.

It might end up ugly but that's better than where it started.
