Looks like the wood has been stripped, doesn't appear to have much if any finish. Nice fiddleback figure for as late a production rifle as that is.

I'd pay that much for that rifle. Even if the stock has been refinished.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Perry County would say if it was aftermarket, My stock gal would work her magic on that one, the good old red stain Winchester used... At any rate for the money ( and being 270 fwt) I say its a buy not a steal. Im holding out for a 55' or 56'. the very best winpoor

Nice FWT. Hard to them with that nice a wood. I have a very clean '61 '06 that I don't think has ever really been used, though it has some handling marks. The wood on it is pretty much what I call "chair wood" Ha Ha

I have had oldtimer Winchester loons tell me that the machines were worn out and shimmed up by 1960 and a lot of the old time craftsmen were retired or dead, my post 1960 guns shoot very well, better than the nut behind trigger,These same loons swore by the transition guns!Claimed best of both worlds... I do not doubt them BUT a dead crow at 300 yards is a dead crow! Thats my thinking... I still want a transition gun I sold to GSP back....LOL the only GOV'T you can trust!!! Again if anyone has doubts about the wood on the OPs gun, a call to Perry County will get an honest answer, Ive delt with them before.. I started out with Randy Shuman then Perry County and another one or two, Riffle in Ft Meyers FL was a different deal in the 80's. the very best winpoor

That sure is a nice one. Wish I had the cash laying around. Then again, I'd like to have a shooter and not one that is in that good of shape! I would want to use it.

I'm sure you will be able to sell it with no problem.. If my memory serves me well, I think the price of the rifle in the OP was listed at around $1,200.00.. Someone else may remember the exact price... Yours would sell for more. Guaranteed...Mine's not for sale either. For the exact reasons you state about your rifle. Except I know mine is the best 270 fwt I've seen except for the NIB rifle my smith offered me for $1,700.00. I'm still glad I bought mine instead of that one, because it shoots so well....

I had thought I was going to be a purist and limit myself to the widow's peak aluminum buttplate However the wood on this early plastic butt plate model was too good to pass up. Sometimes you just got to take the good with the bad

Yes, the wood on your rifle is extra nice. It would be hard for me to sell that one!!!! If you do decide to sell it, list it on gunsinternational and consult with some of your good buddies in the Winchester collectors forum for a good appraisal and current market value...
