Regarding a new handgun purchase I'm thinking about. P226 (Mk25) vs. M9/92.

Insights from those that shoot or have shot both? Currently shoot/carry an older XD9, used to have the Taurus version of the 92. Just want something else in 9mm.

Thanks for your insights.

I'd go with a sig over the M9/92 any day. Have you experienced the XD in it's Mod2 edition?

Love my P226, the 92 just felt to big and clunky in my hands.

I'd probably choose the Beretta just because I'm so familiar with it.

If you have big hands the 92 is a good choice. It's an accurate and reliable pistol that can be tuned fairly easily.

Wilson Combat is doing some nice stuff with them now and have some tuneup parts available as well as custom versions.

Between the Sig & the Beretta, I'd take the Beretta just because I've used one more & Sig's, though great guns, just don't feel good in the hand to me.

I'd suggest that you take a close look at the Walther PPQ M2 & the H-K Vp9 as well; I like my Glocks & Beretta's but if I were buying another 9mm today, it would be the Walther or the H-K almost certainly.

You should wait and buy one of the SEAL's surplus 226's, the rusty ones that don't work anymore. Whatever you do, don't buy a Glock 19, that would be stupid.

True but the grip on the M9A3 is a LOT thinner.

Generally agree. The glocks work for those who don't have better options. Better options are generally available...

I have three versions of the Beretta 92/M9 pistols and really like them all. Billennium, Brigadier, and 92SB Compact-M.

I recently acquired a Sig 290RS sub-compact 9MM pistol and am not comfortable with it while firing it.
I have previously shot a Sig 226 and one other model in the Sig 220's series, both pistols handled and functioned very well.
No complaints, I know they're great pistols - Just not for me!

Is the trigger angle/position the reason that you're not comfortable with the p290?

I tried one, and didn't think I could live with it for that reason.

About the same issue that I have with rugers LCR revolvers...

YES! I tried everything to pull that trigger, adjusting my grip, changing hands, fingers, and I'd rather not say all what else ...

Yes I too love the Italians, I have a few Beretta's too. for those who have a smaller to medium hand, Wilson combat has a super thin grip that works wonders for the 92 series .

Keep in mind the mk25 has a different rail on it. And you have to order a holster specifically for the mk 25.

I carried a P226 in 357 Sig on duty ,and liked it a lot more than our issued Glocks.

Once you get used to the slDA/SA trigger control, I think you'll be quite pleased,

The Sigs have a high bore axis, but with a 9mm that's not such a big deal. The decock-only settup of the Sig is superior, but you can get a 92 with a decock-only function, too, i.e,. the 92G. As between the 226 and a 92G, I'd go with the 92G, because I just prefer the feel of it. The Sig is a simpler design, and easier to strip and reassemble. It probably comes down to which you like and shoot better.

While I wouldn't care to carry either these days, the M25 is my house gun now.

the M9 is bulkier and heavier than it needs to be. The safety was forever flipping to fire when carried and wasn't natural to flip when intended. For me it was a fiddle phlucky mess and while could fiddle it enough to qualify fine just never warmed to it in the least. One hand or weak side one hand - yuck. Indeed, begged off on inheriting a like-new early Italian production 92, I dislike it that much. In an all steel 9mm service pistol the CZ75 is a much cleaner design to me and happily own one of those.

Been partial to 1911-like controls and dislike the departure in muscle memory to run Sigs, but bought a M25 and added the short reset trigger on an impulse buy few years ago, and against every fiber of my being have to admit it is a shooting sum beech. It too is a little larger proportioned than necessary but the grip is right for me, the controls are well placed (if totally different), it shoots not just accurately but Gawd is it fast and steady, it just begs to be driven onto targets. It should say "For room clearing" on the side of it. It's a no-brainer which one I'd rather go in harms way with. Now I suppose the M9 could have a action/trigger job too, the newer gnerations are "improved", and training overcomes a lot, but, blech, still why?

Would bet the CZ custom shop's SPO1 Shadow is a similarly slick service pistol but that's getting away from "stock with a trigger job" and into "custom/competition."

Sig P226 with the SRT (Short Reset Trigger) which cuts the reset by at least half. I don't ride the reset much, but shorter is always better. The SRT kit consists of a sear and safety lever for about $50. The P226 is also available double action, single action only, or DAK (which sucks). Take you pick. The P226 SRT is a slick handling pistol in every way.

After all the P226 options had been eliminated I might consider the Beretta M9 which would be traded for a player to be named later.

More reliable than a Sig P226? I doubt it.

I've owned both and liked the Sig better.

That being said I don't have either anymore, but I have plenty of Glocks...
