I bought a packed of Ferry-Morse Walla Walla Sweet onion seeds from Walmart, got home and had to research that info, not on the packed. Their website, www.plantationproducts.com , stated:

"Long-day. Open-pollinated Spanish-type. Plant produces extra large, 2 lb., flattened globes with light brown skin and white interior that are sweet and exceptionally mild. Very cold hardy. Always popular in the Northwest, and very suitable for Northern regions. Short term storage."

It's only $2.00 for that packet, but I'll have to try planting them late this Spring and see if they'll tolerate 90+ degree summer temperatures here in North Texas.

Who else sorts seeds by day length?

Are there any preferred seed companies that sell by region?

I've ended up going to two other hardware stores to find non-gmo organic or heirloom seeds that seem likely to work for my region.

Right off the top of my head,....

There are some FINE strains of Onion grown over in Fla.

I've got some "Forever Onions" that have been running hard here for YEARS,....fresh scallions as required, year round.Plant one, and a BUNCH materialize, ...e.g. also called a "Bunching Onion". Once established, they pretty much just need a bit of water and occasional weeding.

PM, I'll send some over.
